10-man Sierra Stars blow it in Monrovia

Sierra Leone’s Under–23 National Team, The Sierra Stars - got eliminated from the Olympic Games Qualifying series by Liberia’s Junior Lone Star during their second leg decider in Monrovia this evening. Still ruing their many missed chances during the first leg a month ago at the National Stadium in Freetown , the Stars who at the time allowed the Liberians to force them to a 1-1 draw needed to win or force a high-scoring draw today be able to get into the next round of the competition. But in Monrovia this evening, the Sierra Stars who played a man short for most of the game, after having a player sent off, put up a brave show but could do no better than force the Liberians to a 1- 1 draw even after extra time. The match went into a penalty shootout which the Liberians won 3-1 after all but one of the Sierra Leonean kickers missed their target.
