International Fellowship of Evangelical Students

A tremendous work of God

The International Fellowship of Evangelical Students (IFES) is a global community of indigenous student movements, called to engage the university with the good news of Jesus Christ. Currently there are more than 500,000 students involved in over 150 national movements worldwide.

christmas around the world

...may you all be blessed as you contemplate the wonder of the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us

Christmas is coming! For those who know and love Jesus, this is a wonderful season to celebrate 'God become man'. However December can also be a time of sadness: some students are far from their home countries; others return home to difficult family situations.

IFES groups all over the world use the opportunity provided by the Christmas season to have special programmes that reach out in love with fun, food, friendship... and hope.

• In Greece, where the movement is small, staff are opening their home to students and others for dinner and carols. Pray that relationships with those attending might grow deeper through this experience, providing a basis for sharing in the future.

• Pray for responsiveness to Christmas programmes hosted by the movement in high schools throughout Guyana, that students might become interested in attending other Christian activities.

• In Malaysia it is school holidays right now and the student movements are holding many camps in December. These events focus on reaching both second-generation Christians and un-churched students. Please pray for God to guide the speakers and to touch the hearts of those attending.

• Pray for students in Israel who have several outreach events planned this month, and also are visiting hospitals in three big cities around Christmas time.

• Students in a country in Eurasia (that we cannot name for security reasons) will be holding their Christmas celebration this Saturday. Please pray for the two people who will be sharing about the 'reason for the season', and for the many students attending this event who don't know about the coming of a Saviour.

For all these and other Christmas events, please pray for the Lord to use this great opportunity to touch the hearts of the students who come.

Finally, Christmas is a time when those supporting the work of IFES often give a special donation. We know a number of our movements and staff are facing a shortfall at the end of the year, especially as giving has decreased in these stressful financial times. Please pray for a spirit of sacrificial generosity among donors all over the world, as they contemplate the great sacrifice that God made in sending his son to earth.

May you all be blessed as you contemplate the wonder of the Word who became flesh and dwelt among us.
