Kelly has led the No. 2 Ducks to a perfect 12-0 record and an upcoming appearance in the BCS title game against No. 1 Auburn. A win would secure Oregon's first national championship.
He received 24 of the 55 votes, finishing ahead of Auburn's Gene Chizik, who received 17 votes. Stanford's Jim Harbaugh (five votes), TCU's Gary Patterson (three) and Michigan State's Mark Dantonio (three) rounded out the top five.
Kelly's tenure in Oregon began with some turbulence last year, as running back LeGarrette Blount punched a Boise State player in Kelly's first game as coach. But Oregon eventually finished 10-3, winning the Pac-10 championship and appearing in the Rose Bowl.
More trouble found the team, as Jeremiah Masoli and LaMichael James each got into legal trouble, but it didn't deter Kelly or the Ducks, who reached No. 1 for the first time in school history this season and led the nation in offense.
Kelly was hired to be Oregon's offensive coordinator under head coach Mike Bellotti in 2007, installing his spread-option attack. In early 2009, Bellotti was elevated to Oregon's athletic director, and Kelly took his spot running the football team.
