Conor Clifford's loan deal with Plymouth Argyle, which yesterday was extended until January 22, has been rejected by the Football League.

The League viewed the agreement as a new loan, rather than an extension, and because the Pilgrims have been made the subject of a winding-up order since the midfielder headed to the south coast, his registration has been declined.

Clifford made eight appearances for Plymouth, and will now return to Stamford Bridge.
