About Cooliris
Over the past 10 years, online content has accumulated at an exponential rate, making it increasingly difficult for people to find the information and entertainment that is the most relevant and interesting to them. The tools to help people discover, consume, and share content have not evolved over time to match people's changing needs, nor have the applications people use to interact with content kept up with the increasing capabilities of computers and expanding technologies.
Cooliris was founded in January 2006 with the mantra: "Think beyond the browser". We believe that new and better ways of browsing and managing massive amounts of content can be developed, using both the full power of the hardware and new software concepts that make it easier and more fun to surf the web.
By creating a portfolio of free and easy-to-use products that provide consistent content experiences across different screens, Cooliris offers a unique value proposition to consumers, website owners, content providers, and advertisers. Products include:
- Cooliris for the desktop is a browser add-on that is the fastest and most stunning way to browse, search, and discover Web and desktop media, using the immersive and cinematic Cooliris 3D Wall.
- Cooliris for iPhone enables users to search, discover and share photos, videos, news and entertainment on-the-go with their iPhone.
- Cooliris Express is a tool that enables users of all skill levels to quickly and easily embed a Flash-based Cooliris Wall with their custom content on any website, blog, or social network.
- LiveShare is a fun mobile and web application that makes it easy for you and your friends take pictures at cool events and share them all in one live photostream.
- Discover is a popular iPad application that lets users explore, find, and enjoy information from Wikipedia in a rich magazine-like interface.
- CoolPreviews is a browser add-on that enables users to surf the web faster and more efficiently by allowing users to preview links and media-rich content as well delve deeper into search topics, without leaving the webpage they are viewing.
Coming soon is our new Cooliris Platform, an internal platform we have been developing to accelerate the time to market for products. Based on open web technologies, the Cooliris Platform makes it easier and more efficient to create stunning, visually rich web applications by adding significant new capabilities in the areas of 3D rendering, data flow and templates. Though relatively early by platform standards, parts of the Cooliris Platform will soon be available to key strategic partners.
Cooliris also supports open source initiatives, and recently developed the Gallery application for the Nexus One smartphone, which will also be contributed to Android 2.1. The Gallery is an example of the Cooliris mission, taking advantage of the phone's powerful hardware with an intuitive browsing interface, and creating a totally new and unique experience for viewing and managing photos and videos on a mobile device.
