According to Reuters, AC/DC came in at No. 2 on the list of the world's top concert attractions of 2010 after making all its money overseas. AC/DC grossed $177 million from 40 shows while METALLICA was No. 5 with $110.1 million from 60 overseas dates. Meanwhile, BON JOVI ended the year as the world's top concert draw, having sold $201.1 million worth of tickets, split almost evenly between North America and the rest of the world.
AC/DC was honored in the "Top Boxscore" category at the Billboard Touring Awards, which were handed out at a special reception in New York on November 4. The awards are primarily based on global box office numbers reported to Billboard Boxscore from October 1, 2009, through September 30, 2010.
The "Top Boxscore" award recognizes the highest-grossing single engagement for the time period. Two of the Boxscore finalists were from AC/DC: a three-night, sold-out stand at ANZ Stadium in Sydney and three more sellouts at Etihad Stadium in Melbourne; both were in February. The third finalist for Top Boxscore was the Download festival in the U.K.
METALLICA wrapped up its two-year-long "World Magnetic" tour on November 21 with the last of three shows in Melbourne, Australia, bringing to an end a trek that began on September 12, 2008 in Berlin to support the band's ninth studio album, "Death Magnetic". The group issued a statement compiling the tour's numbers, which included "45 countries, 143 arena shows, 34 festival shows, 29 stadium shows, four club/theater shows, three TV/radio shows, two Hall of Fame shows, 3790 songs, and not a single setlist was the same."
The group played a total of 216 shows in 800 days.
METALLICA is already confirmed to headline Rock In Rio next September in Brazil. The band will also make several festival appearances in Europe over the summer.
KISS guitarist/vocalist Paul Stanley will make an appearance on the nationally televised Fox Business network program "Varney & Company" this Thursday, December 30 at 7:30 a.m. Pacific (10:30 a.m. Eastern). Paul will discuss the phenomenal success of KISS in 2010 as well as his own personal accomplishments as an artist.
"Varney & Company", hosted by veteran business journalist Stuart Varney, addresses the latest happenings on Wall Street and the business world. Be sure to check your local listings and tune in.
In a recent interview with Celebrity Extra, Stanley stated about his artwork, "I've been doing it for quite a few years now. I started painting 10 years ago really as a way of finding another creative outlet. I'm always looking for another way to express myself, and that's how I attempted to find myself. So whether it was doing 'Phantom of the Opera' or painting or doing what I do in KISS, they're all ways for me to emote stay creative. That's who I am, that's what's in my blood."
On December 9, PCM conducted an interview with vocalist Alexis Brown of the Knoxville, Tennessee-based female-fronted metal/hardcore act STRAIGHT LINE STITCH at the Theatre of Living Arts (TLA) Philadelphia, Pennsylvania during the band's U.S. tour with SOULFLY. You can now watch the chat below.
STRAIGHT LINE STITCH's latest video, "Never See The Day", can be viewed below. The song comes off the band's debut album, "When Skies Wash Ashore", which was released in August 2008 via E1 Music (formerly Koch Records) under the newly created Raging Nation Records imprint. The CD was recorded at Millbrook Sound Studios in Millbrook, New York with producer Rob Caggiano (ANTHRAX, CRADLE OF FILTH, 36 CRAZYFISTS).
"I enjoyed making the video for 'Never See The Day' because it is our first video with an actual storyline," Brown told AOL's Noisecreep. "The concept for the song is well-portrayed in the video and is fairly easy for the viewer to follow along. It was really rad to interact with the actors and actually have to act myself. It was truly an awesome experience! The only thing that sucked about making the video was the weather, and that wasn't really so bad. It was just super cold, but we all survived and I think the video turned out great."

Former BROKEN HOPE/current LUPARA guitarist and author Jeremy Wagner last month attended legendary rock photographer Ross Halfin's first-ever Australian exhibition of METALLICA photos taken between 1985 and 2010. In addition, Wagner gave both Ross Halfin and METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett autographed copies of Jeremy's last book, "Hungry For Your Love - An Anthology of Zombie Romance". Both Ross and Kirk in turn signed Jeremy's copy of Halfin's newly released book, "The Ultimate Metallica" (Chronicle Books).
Halfin has documented METALLICA for nearly 25 years, from their beginnings as a scrappy, furious garage band to their current status as the heaviest and most popular metal band in the world. Featuring a foreword by Ulrich and an afterword by guitarist Kirk Hammett, "The Ultimate Metallica" collects the best of Halfin's amazing images, taken over the years with access granted exclusively to him as the band's main lensman. His candid photographs — taken on stage, backstage, on and off tour — are supplemented by text from many people close to the band, including managers and music writers, plus some colorful personal observations from Halfin himself.
Jeremy Wagner recently signed a book deal for his debut novel, "The Armageddon Chord". The book is slated for release in August 2011 in digital format, trade paperback, and a special, limited-edition hardcover through kRP Publishing.
According to the San Jose Mercury News, a 40-year-old woman who fell into alcohol abuse and depression after the 2004 onstage shooting death of "close friend" "Dimebag Darrell" Abbott (PANTERA, DAMAGEPLAN) was found dead in the Oakland, California hills on Friday. The nude body of Jill Marie Abbott was spotted at the entrance to a bike trail in the 15000 block of Skyline Boulevard, about 50 feet east of Keller Avenue, at about 8:20 a.m. by a resident who was driving by, police said. The cause of her death hasn't yet been determined, police said.
Jill Marie Abbott dated PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo in the early 1990s, according to her ex-boyfriend Devin Walker. Though not related, Jill and Dimebag shared a last name, and the guitarist would tell people that she was his sister.
"They have their own family. She was part of that family — the band and all their wives and girlfriends and their crew," Walker said. "She was a very happy person back then. When Darrell got killed, it affected her deeply."
Jill Marie Abbott wrote on her MySpace page, "I grew up with PANTERA; they were a big part of my life. I will NEVER get over what happened to my special friend Dime! I also love SLAYER." She also wrote, "We need to be thankful for every day we wake up, and enjoy life.... We never know when it's our last day. So be kinder to your family and friends. Don't live in fear of things you are not sure of. Gotta keep on keepin' on. Listen to some of Dime's music, and believe he would want us to be HAPPY. Dry them tears of pain, and GETCHA PULL!! DIME SHINES 4EVER!"

Commented guitarist/vocalist Charles Elliott: "Lyrically, the song is about trying not to repeat your same mistakes, and trying to find purpose in life in the time that you're given.
"When I was writing the lyrics, I was very inspired by the infectious mechanized rhythm of the song. I could visualize the gears of clocks ticking away and it got me thinking about my own mortality.
"I'm really proud of this song and the fact that it was the first collaborative effort between myself, Mike and Scott.
"This new record is definitely our best and we can't wait for everyone to hear it!"
The drums for the follow-up 2008's "Programmed To Consume" were recorded at Trench Studios in Corona, California with John Haddad (PHOBIA, INTRONAUT, HIRAX), with the rest of the instrumentation being produced and recorded by Mike Bear (ARTISAN, ex-PROTOTYPE) at Artisan Road Studios in Encino, California. Neil said: "After we buried [Skylar], I sedated myself on pills and alcohol. I couldn't take it.
"For months I really tried to kill myself. I wanted to die. It went on for two years after she passed away — I was in eight our nine rehabs. I felt she was waiting for me, and the only place I wanted to go was to her.
"One night I was lying in bed with her blanket, still wanting to die. I was sound asleep — and there was a little tug on the blanket. I woke up, opened my eyes and the door was open.
"I was scared. I didn't know what was going on — but it was her."

Guitarist Brian Tatler of NWOBHM (New Wave Of British Heavy Metal) legends DIAMOND HEAD joined Ginger from THE WILDHEARTS on stage on December 22 at Wulfrun Hall in Wolverhampton, England.
Commented Brian: "Saturday, December 18, Ginger from THE WILDHEARTS calls to say he is out on tour as 'Ginger And Friends' playing the music of THE WILDHEARTS enquiring if I would like to play a song with him on Wednesday, December 22 at the Wulfrun Hall, Wolverhampton. He suggests I learn '29x The Pain'. I say I know quite a few WILDHEARTS songs and I offer 'My Baby Is A Headfuck'. Ginger says, 'Great. You can come on and do both those as an encore with Jason from WOLFSBANE ( the support band). You can have a solo each and do Shreddy Krueger.'
"It's been a terrible winter here and I set off in my snow-covered car passing lots of vehicles that have been abandoned by the curbside. I arrive in time to meet the rest of the band and Ginger volunteers to open the show with an acoustic set filling in for Spike who has failed to turn up!
"'Ginger And Friends' hit the stage at 9:15 p.m., treating the crowd to many great songs, including 'Caffeine Bomb', 'Suckerpunch' and 'I Wanna Go Where The People Go'. I waited nervously backstage for my introduction, having never played with this band before or indeed played these two songs in front of anyone. But once onstage, I loved every short minute of it and it felt like I was onstage for about 20 seconds.
"Loads of fun.
"See you all again sometime soon."
Fan-filmed video footage of Brian Tatler's performance with Ginger can be viewed below.

Guitarist/vocalist Joe Duplantier of French extreme/progressive metallers GOJIRA was recently interviewed by ARTISTdirect.com. You can now watch the chat below.
GOJIRA entered a Los Angeles, California-area studio in early November with producer Logan Mader (ex-MACHINE HEAD/SOULFLY guitarist) to begin recording a new four-song EP, the proceeds from which will benefit Sea Shepherd, an anti-whaling organization. The EP will feature appearances by several "very special guests."
During an appearance on the December 3-5, 2010 edition of Full Metal Jackie's nationally syndicated radio show, Joe Duplantier was asked if he's worried about how the GOJIRA fans will react to the band being involved with an organization like Sea Shepherd. "I am not worried at all," he replied. "I don't care about these reactions, really. What I care about is mostly where I put myself and what kind of energy in my life, why I do things.
"This is something very, very, very important to me, to do this, but it's not on a political level... It's also political, of course, but it's more on a spiritual level. I like to feel that I am part of something that goes in the right direction, something that has sense. And being famous is really cool, having a lot of money is really cool — making money and all that — but it's not the most important [thing] for me."
On what prompted GOJIRA's involvement with Sea Shepherd:
Duplantier: "I saw a movie called 'Sharkwater'. It was made by a guy [Rob Stewart] who is involved with sharks. And he just wanted to film sharks; he's diving in the ocean and he hugs sharks and he's trying to present them as they are — not like a threat or a danger or monsters, but just animals [who are] beautiful. They have the right to live. It's not just because they're dangerous that we should kill them all. And the fact is that more than 90 percent of the sharks on the planet disappeared over the last 30 years only — like, they're almost gone.
"It's really sad; it made me cry when I watched this movie. And in this movie you can Sea Shepherd in the second half of the movie, they're in the movie all the time, because they meet on the... It's like a road trip — he's [Rob Stewart] filming himself all the time — and he meets the guy from Sea Shepherd and they help him to save some of the sharks.
"They're facing a huge problem with the international mafia who's dealing with shark things, for the Japanese mostly, to put them in the soup. So they catch sharks and they cut the things [fins] and they throw back the sharks in the water and they just die like that. A lot of poor countries do that so you could also care about these people trying to survive and fishing and selling.
"I don't know... It seems like there is something super-important and there are laws [regulating shark finning], but there is no enforcement to make sure that they don't catch the sharks.
"I'm talking about sharks, but it's the same problem with whales and dolphins and tuna... All these species are just disappearing from the planet because everybody wants to eat them or catch them for their fat, skin, bones, fins, for makeup products or even for weapons... Some parts of the whales are used to build weapons.
"After [seeing the 'Sharkwater'] movie, I was, like, 'Holy crap! What can we do for that?' And what I feel is when you are an artist and you start to have the attention of the people and people actually listen to you and what you're saying, I think you have a responsibility towards the planet and towards the people. We have to think about what we are saying and what we are doing. And [when it comes to the new GOJIRA] EP, I feel exactly at the right place when I do this.
"There's a lot of confusion in the world in general. Everybody is in survival mode all the time. And we created this opportunity in our lives to stick the head out of the gutter and stop surviving and try to do something to live, really, like human beings."
Video footage of SEPULTURA guitarist Andreas Kisser's guitar workshops in the Brazilian cities of Florianopolis and Blumenau on December 15 and December 19, respectively, can be viewed below.
SEPULTURA has tapped Roy Z. (JUDAS PRIEST, HALFORD, BRUCE DICKINSON, HELLOWEEN) to produce the group's new album, tentatively due in early 2011 via Nuclear Blast Records. The CD will once again be recorded at Trama Studios in São Paulo, Brazil.
SEPULTURA debuted a brand new song from its upcoming album during its October 17 appearance at the Fúria Festival at HSBC Brasil in São Paulo.
SEPULTURA performed its classic 1991 album, "Arise", in its entirety during the group's headlining performance at the 16-year anniversary of the Manifesto Bar in São Paulo, Brazil on December 11.
The group's current lineup includes only two of the four bandmembers who performed on "Arise" — guitarist Andreas Kisser and bassist Paulo Xisto Pinto Jr.
Kisser's solo debut, "Hubris I & II", was nominated in the "Best Brazilian Rock Album" category at the 2010 Latin Grammys, which aired live November 11 from Las Vegas on the Univision Network.
"Hubris I & II" was released in June 2009 via Holland's Mascot Records. A two-disc set, the self-produced effort was recorded in part at A Voz do Brasil studio in São Paulo, Brazil.
Kisser previously stated about the album, "I'm very pleased with the result and I'm excited to hear it all done. It was a long process, a learning process and a great experience. It's a musical journey through the influences I had for last 15 years of my life and at the same time it's very different from everything I did so far."
"Hubris" comes from Greek word "hybris," which means "excessive pride, wanton violence."
