Happy Holidays from Dohop!

Christmas & New Year’s or in other words, high season, is approaching (in fact it’s almost here!) If you’re planning to travel during this time, you should probably buy your ticket no later than yesterday. However, if you’re looking for a little get-away holiday, here’s another idea. Why not wait till the Christmas craze is over, and get more value for your money on a mid-winter vacation?

As we know, consumerism always takes a hit in January, when people have spent all their savings (and more) during the holidays and as a result, demand & prices for flights, hotels and everything else that rhymes with holiday goes down. This is good news for you, because it means that you can get luxury accommodation in 5 star resorts for very cheap, and best of all is that you can often book last minute at these great prices! One of the best holiday decisions I ever made was to take my friend for a week long, all inclusive holiday in Sharm el Sheikh in Egypt for about $300 per person, and this was booked only 3 days before the vacation (and mind you, this was way before the sharks).

Be inspired by some of these sunny destinations and book a luxury holiday at budget prices for January and February!

While preparing for our soon-to-be-released super-duper deal-finder, we have come across quite a bit of beautiful photographs of some spectacular places.

Here are the five most beautiful photos we came across.

First, while looking for photos of Oregon, these two beauties came up.

Number 5:

Meanwhile, in Oregon...

Number 4:

Starfish waves goodbye to the sun.

I guess we should look for flights to Oregon.

Number 3:

The Forbidden City, Beijing

We found this photo from Beijing while looking for “City” images. Looks strangely serene for the image of Beijing I have in my head.

Number 2:

Luxembourg in glorious HDR

Judging from the photos on flickr, Luxembourg is colorful and pretty but looks calm and cold.

And…. the prettiest photo of a pretty place on flickr:

A slice of summer.

This photo made me want to fly to Fiji right away. I mean not-even-grabbing-a-toothbrush right away, NOW!

These photos all appear in one way or another in our new deal finding tool, Away, which will hopefully be released on Monday. We promise more great deals than you can shake a stick at. That is, unless you have some really superfast stick-shaking skills.

We are in the last hours of the contest we are running to find our new logo, at logotournament.com.

Not that there is anything wrong with the one we have. Ok, it is a bit left-heavy and the .com at the end can be confusing to Dohop users in France and Norway (who go to Dohop.fr and Dohop.no).

Here are some of the suggestions we like so far:

Logo design by raymer

Logo design by bluii

Logo design by Biink

So, do you like what you see? There are many, many more entries, here.

Can you imagine any of these as the new Dohop logo? Are they better than this?:

Soon we’ll be launching our new deal finder, currently called Away. Clicking on the screenshot should give you a larger view.

Travel Deals

Screenshot of Dohop Away

It is designed so that you enter the location you will be travelling from, in this case Dublin, and a time (March 2011 for instance), press “One-way” or “Return” and we then show you available deals. You can organize them by price (pictured) or by location alphabetically.

We are open to suggestions for a different name.

p.s. The backdrop is New York city, not Dublin.

We hope Away will be a sensation, all viral and whatnot.
