The Voyage of the Dawn Treader

Have you seen it yet?
I’m really looking forward to seeing the latest installment in the Chronicles of Narnia series, The Voyage of the Dawn Treader.  It’s unlikely that I’ll get to a theater soon, so I thought I’d share with you a great review of the film written by Leticia Velasquez of Catholic Media Review.  Have you seen the other films and are you planning to see this one?  With the Chronicles series, do you prefer the books or the films?

Cute & Cool Tees Make Great Gifts

some early Christmas shopping ideas

I realize Christmas is still about two months away but I’m determined to finish my shopping before Advent begins this year.

Will my determination trump my nature (my nature having a reputation for procrastination)? It’s highly unlikely but I’m giving it all I’ve got! Who’s with me?

While I was wandering the web in search of Christmas presents for friends and family I stumbled upon a website called... READ MORE

The Bells of St. Mary's

Who would you cast in the lead roles?

On Saturday night, I found myself home alone.  Adam was with a friend, Greg was at work, and I was worn out from a day spent writing and feeling a little under the weather.  I was too tired to read, but not tired enough to sleep so I picked up the remote and decided to treat myself to a chick flick on Netflix.  Since I live in a house with men, this is a rare treat so I gave myself permission to be... Today's Exciting Topic: Laundry Hampers!

What kind works for your family?

You all know know this is the blog for anyone grappling with the meaning of life or the cleaning of laundry.

So today, let’s talk laundry. Specifically, laundry hampers.

I love my laundry hamper. Or I suppose I should say, I loved my laundry hamper. Because it’s certainly seen brighter days.

I have one of those cute, wooden, folding hampers with a linen bag that ties on. The exact model I have is... READ MORE

Rachel's Contrition Giveaway

Win a great new Catholic novel

Are you looking for great fiction? How about great Catholic fiction? Well, look no further.

Rachel’s Contrition, by Michelle Buckman, has been making some waves on Amazon, rating first in women’s fiction on the Feast of the Holy Rosary this year (October 7).

There’s a reason it made number one. This is a book that not only begs a reviewer to use words like “riveting,” “powerful,” and even “awesome,”... READ MORE

Win 'The Death Panels'

Your chance to win a great new Catholic novel

I’m a big fan of Michelle Buckman‘s, and I’m tickled to share one of her two new novels, The Death Panels, with everyone here.

Brace yourself before you pick this book up. It’s not light reading, but I’d be lying if I didn’t admit to already recommending it to everyone I know.

Death Panels builds a world that my children could live in, a world that’s not so far from possible. It takes the most dangerous... READ MORE

Tights! Tights! Tights!

a little girl classic grows up

This week was the first week local temperatures dipped low enough to justify wearing my favorite fashion accessory—tights! For someone like me who favors simple, monotone clothing, tights can be an easy way to add a little flair. They can also add warmth to an outfit and are a fantastic way to “modest-ize” your wardrobe. Here are a few of my favorite selections from StockinGirl.com

I will often... READ MORE

Whether You're "Martha" or "Mary", you'll love this book!

I am very happy to help spread the word about a great new book from Tami Kiser entitled Smart Martha’s Catholic Guide for Busy Moms.  You may already know Tami from her work on the Smart Martha website - perhaps you’ve even been lucky enough to hear her speak at one of her seminars.  Tami’s known for giving practical time management and organization advice, but from a spiritual perspective.

Hypercharge with Skyball

A cool toy for grown ups too!

Today, I took an impromptu trip to Target with a friend and found myself in the toy section. That’s not someplace I hang out much lately, so I’m not up to date on all of the latest toy crazes.  While waiting for her to browse, I picked up a Skyball which is reputed to be the “highest bouncing ball ever made”.  Well, needless to say, the blue Skyball was so addictive that it made its way into my cart... Ramona and Beezus

On being "extraordinary"

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of accompanying my nine year old friend Grace to a “sneak peak” at the film Ramona and Beezus, which will be released in theaters on July 23.  Honestly, it was a treat to take in this upbeat film, even though I haven’t personally read the famous Ramona books.  The actors in the movie were fantastic, the plot moved quickly and the soundtrack had me singing along several...
