From the Movies
The needle-nosed Mars Guo piloted a big bruiser of a Podracer during the Boonta Eve Classic, the spectacle in which Anakin Skywalker won his freedom from slavery. It was his first time in the big leagues, though Mars had gained valuable experience in the minor rim leagues.
In the second lap, Mars was taken out of the race by some high-speed sabotage courtesy of Sebulba. The slippery Dug tossed a piece of debris into Mars' intakes, bringing the giant racer down in a terrible crash. Anakin Skywalker, who was in third place at the time, was clipped by Mars' wreckage, and narrowly avoided a similar fate when one of his Podracer cables disengaged. He was able to regain control, and move up to second place.
From the Expanded Universe
Perhaps the obnoxious Phuii's performance that day would have been better had he not been so terribly hung-over. The night before, the loudmouth braggart had way too much to drink at a glimmik concert, and ended up making empty overtures to one of Sebulba's comely masseuses. Sebulba overheard Guo (it's hard not to), and so did Teemto Pagalies, a Veknoid outcast who was smitten with the blue Twi'lek beauty.
Behind the Scenes
Mars Guo was one of the few Podrace pilots to be realized as a puppet in the film. For distant shots of him and his vehicle he was entirely computer-generated. For new shots of him outside his Podracer, created exclusively for the Episode I DVD, Guo is also computer-generated.
