Mumbai, July 1

Mr Sanjay Aggarwal has resigned from his post of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SpiceJet.

Confirming the development, the no-frills airline said that Mr Aggarwal had put in his papers on June 30. The development took place within weeks of Chennai-based media baron Mr Kalanithi Maran acquiring a 37.7 per cent stake in SpiceJet.

Mr Aggarwal became the CEO of SpiceJet in October 2008, around three months after its previous head, Mr Siddhanth Sharma, resigned from his post to join Interglobe, the company that runs low cost carrier Indigo.

Prior to joining the New Delhi-based airline, Mr Aggarwal was Chief Operating Officer and Chief Strategy Officer with US-based Flight Options, a private jet aviation provider.

His appointment at SpiceJet came in a few months after the carrier received Rs 345 crore in investment from private equity investor Mr Wilbur Ross, who recently offloaded his stake to Mr Maran.
