Quebec City skyline Set on the St. Lawrence, Quebec City has a priceless architectural heritage and a rich and colourful past. Built at the base of a natural fortress dubbed the “Gibraltar of America” by Charles Dickens, Quebec City is the cradle of French civilization in North America, a busy seaport, an important service and research centre, a cultural hot spot and, of course, the capital of Quebec province. Historic Quebec City was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985, and it is the only fortified city north of Mexico. SOURCE: Wikipedia Commons photo.
