The Smog #13

Posted on Dec 20, 2010 03:41PM

The latest issue of Smogon's web zine, The Smog #13, has been released!

The Smog is back again with its first full-fledged 5th generation issue, featuring such lovely articles as a Black and White metagame analysis, a Little Cup metagame analysis, and a BW threatlist! We've also continued with our instruction on Japanese, although this time with a twist in looking at terrible Pokemon names (You all know a few). And as if that weren't enough, to counter all of the "cute Pokemon" talk from previous issues, we've got an article detailing the manliest of manly Pokemon, and why you wouldn't want to run into any of them in a dark alley! Lastly, don't forget to check out the Smog Awards 2010 update, which lists all of the nominees that you can vote on to win each award.

If you missed any previous issues, check out The Smog section of the website to catch up. If you are interested in joining The Smog production staff, look into the The Smog forum for more information. ~Rising_Dusk

Smogon Tournament 7 and 5th Generation Suspect Testing

Posted on Dec 06, 2010 10:09PM

The sign-up thread for the Seventh Annual Smogon Tournament has now been posted. The official Smogon Tournament is one of the most prestigious tournaments Smogon offers, being one of the few tournaments that reward the winner with a permanent trophy icon on the forums. This year there has been an important change to the format of the tournament: starting from round one, players are now required to win a best-of-three series against their opponent in order to advance. Sign-ups are open to those who have been participating on the Smogon forums actively for at least a month or two. This tournament will essentially be the last official 4th generation-centric tournament, since Smogon is already embracing the new Black and White metagame.

Speaking of the new Black & White metagame, suspect testing for 5th generation OU has officially started on Smogon's Pokemon Online server! For more information on how to participate and qualify to vote, please check out this thread. Good luck to all of the participants in both the suspect testing and Smogon Tournament 7! ~Earthworm & Philip7086

Recently in C&C

Posted on Dec 05, 2010 02:07AM

Only a scant few months ago, Smogon was beginning the shift between the 4th and 5th generations of Pokemon. Now, well into the 5th generation, and with our functional Pokemon Online server running, C&C has been busier than ever trying to sort out the remnants of DPP and keep up with all of the BW analyses getting posted. In case you've been living under a rock, the 5th Generation Analyses forum has been opened up to all users! You may now post your comments and work on your own analyses. This will likely undergo a bit of reformation over the next couple weeks due to the sheer influx of posts and work, but have no fear, C&C will keep you in the know as policies develop!

Now, with that said, let's look at what C&C has put on-site during the month of November.

If you find an error on-site, please post it in the objective or subjective small changes thread. As always, it is C&C's pleasure to help improve the quality of Smogon's on-site article and analysis compendium. If at some point in your time here at Smogon you want to help out C&C, know that we welcome it and will be happy to help you through it. ~Rising_Dusk
