A Basic Curtain

Curtains are a great way to change the appearance of a room, block out light, add privacy and even add insulation. Start with a basic curtain and learn to add more as you sew.

New Jeans Equal Sewing Projects

Monday January 10, 2011

Almost everyone has someone who received new jeans for the holidays. We never throw away old jeans... some times I start to think we could be stars on the show about hording... we seem to find (or think of a way to reuse things to the point that we end up holding on to it to try that idea... some day.

I'm accumulating a good size pile of jeans. I'm saving my daughter's  jeans. I'm hoping to take a couple of days to convert them to skirts and donate them locally before the new school year starts. I may take a couple of them and convert them into bum bags.

Following Their Lead

Wednesday January 5, 2011

I know... you've barely caught your breath from the holidays, and I am going to start pushing Valentine's Day sewing projects at you.... Don't blame me.... the stores started putting Valentine's Day merchandise out, as fast as the Holiday shelves sold out.  Besides, I wanted to remind you before you put away all the red fabric from Christmas. You can use some of that red fabric to sew Valentine's Day projects, gifts and decorations.

A Couple More Free Sewing Projects to Organize

Monday January 3, 2011

As we packed away all the Christmas stuff, I ran across a box of shopping bags... ones that we had hidden so the youngest wouldn't figure out which stores we had been shopping for her holiday gifts. I went to put them away and discovered that the bag holder was overflowing. As much as I do use reusable shopping bags, I ended up with a pile of plastic shopping bags from all the holiday shopping... which has me making another grocery bag holder to hold them all. If I don't re-use them to tote groceries, I use them to line waste baskets throughout the house.

My daughter's gave me a wonderful steam mop that I had been wanting for a long time. As I went to put it away I realized just how many attachments had come with it. I didn't want any of those attachments to get broken and I wanted to be able to find them so I did exactly what the company that made my vacuum did... I made a tote bag specifically for the steam mop attachments. The bags hang on the wall and I can always find the attachments when I want them.  The one that came with the vacuum is over 13 years old and still in fine shape so I know the bag I made will hold up just fine. A drawstring bag would also work, but I like being able to reach into the bag without taking it down so an open tote bag works best for me.

It's Organize Time

Thursday December 30, 2010

I promise myself every year that I am going to become better organized. I have achieved organization most of the time in my sewing room.... I'd never get things done, if I didn't have some form of organization... now I need to clean up my Christmas sewing mess and then move on to cleaning the holidays out of the refrigerator and organizing the refrigerator to "lose weight" mode ... you know... celery instead of cheesecake. More time in the sewing room and less time in the kitchen should help the "lose weight" mode even more than organizing the refrigerator.
