I have joined this group in order to offer help and advice for those interested in China. I run a free website that provides useful information about living in China called china-expats. However, my aim here is not to promote this excellent website, but to make an open offer of welcome to all those who want to know more about this mysterious and interesting country.
There are several types of expat in China, not all live the high life. We went to teach in a university where we were the only foreign teachers, with a bit of Chinese language before we went (at age 65). We lived on a little more than local teacher’s pay. It was the best 5 years of our life.
Thanks for your interesting comment, which is greatly appreciated. Like myself you will have lived in the real world of China, and not the one seen by most foreigners.
I would like to read more about your experiences and wondered of you would consider writing occasionally in the Letters From China section of my website? Your experiences could prove invaluable to like minded souls.

After coming back to Spain 3 years ago I decided to start writing my views and 6 year story as an expat. It starts 10th september 2001; yes, the day before the World entered a new age.

I find it astonishing that people can go to the trouble of establishing a company, in order to buy property (i.e. including land) in Bulgaria, and then just forget about it.
However, given the large number of Bulgarian companies that have not been re-registered (approx. 900k at last count), in order to accommodate European legislation, there must be a tremendous number of foreigners who will lose all their assets (i.e. their houses) when their companies are compulsorily wound up for failure to meet the 31st December, 2010 deadline. Although the deadline is currently under review, there is no guarantee that this will happen.
Many people probably do not realise how serious this is. It is bad enough not submitting company accounts each year and even failing to have a minuted annual meeting but not re-registering will result in loss of the company and, on top of that, in theory, the owners will be expected to foot the bill.
I would urge anyone who owns property in Bulgaria and who has not re-registered their company (that includes all companies that were formed prior to 2008 and some from early that year) to investigate, urgently, what is required on their part in order to do so.
