If there's a perfect balance between cozy and clean, fresh and welcoming, Marya and Rick have found it. Marya knows how to make the most of the old home's small rooms without letting it feel the least bit contrived or overly decorated. She's mixed those elusive qualities of natural homeyness and spare calm that so many of us strive to welcome into our own homes.
Last year, I made a half-hearted attempt to organize our junk drawer. The two small organizers I used (leftover from another project) didn't cut it, and the drawer became a jumbled mess again. Things alternately caught when we opened it or fell behind it and down into the cabinet below. After a friend recently dug through it to find a working pen, I was motivated to reorganize — this time, once and for all.
The Continentale in Florence isn't the most famous boutique hotel in Italy, but it has a breezy simplicity that's really appealing — sort of like Audrey Hepburn's haircut in Roman Holiday. Designed by Michele Bonan, the hotel is decorated with mid-century furniture by Nanna Ditzel and Arne Jacobsen.

There a lot of websites whose sole mission is to get you more organized and decluttered. Some are downright irritating in their pedantic perkiness and perfectionism. But others are actually decent. My boyfriend and I moved into this apartment in May. I knew it was an amazing apartment the moment I walked in and saw the floor to ceiling windows. Though they are beautiful, the close to 30 feet ceilings posed some decorating challenges. To add to the challenges, we moved from a one bedroom to this two bedroom with loft space so we had to make our current stuff work and find new stuff to fit the space without breaking the bank.
Recently Victoria Smith of Sfgirlbybay lead her readers through a remarkable home. This space is owned by artist & blogger Abbey Hendrickson. Her vintage pieces paired with unique DIY elements make this home truly one of a kind.
Q: I want to have this chair reupholstered in a bright pattern such as paisley, floral or crewel in turquoise. I am not sure if I should keep the back tufted of have it changed to plain.
At first, the outright commercialism of this site kind of irked me — it's strange for a gallery to name itself I Need Nice Things, even if it is targeting young collectors with small budgets. But after surfing the site and reading about the concept behind this Australian company, I could re-frame it as the pragmatic confluence of business and art that Andy Warhol called "the best art."
This morning we saw this fantastic junk drawer makeover from Kathleen and it's a true thing of beauty. But sometimes it can be hard to look at a clean drawer and think about your own dirty drawers (yes I'm 6 and really just wanted to say dirty drawers). Where will the legless Spideman Doll go? How about the bit of ribbon that is long enough to use on something … sometime … why would we throw that out? What's the real problem here?
