The Second Annual Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Conference presented at Niles West recently was so popular that the third expo already is being planned for this fall. And once again it will feature fun, hands-on activities for fifth and sixth-grade-students, while advising their parents how to prepare their daughters for high school and college.

A Silver Lining for mammogram health
A Silver Lining Foundation (ASLF) hosted its 3rd Annual Naughty or Nice Party on Dec. 3 at District Bar in Chicago. All proceeds went to support ASLF's "Buy A Mom A Mammogram" program which funds no-cost screening mammograms and diagnostic evaluation to uninsured and underinsured women at six partner hospitals.

The Fixer: Car, owner emerge without a scratch

Dear Fixer: I am a veteran of the U.S. Army and have worked hard for anything I've ever had. In 2005, I returned from a year in Iraq and as a treat to myself, I bought a Chevy Trailblazer from Jack Phelan Chevrolet in Lyons on what Chevrolet/GMAC called a "Smart Buy."


'Eclipsed' women of Liberia shine in war
When the sun or the moon gets blotted out, some things on Earth go unseen for a while. War, in so many ways, causes the same effect. But playwright Danai Gurira shines light on oft overlooked victims of war -- women -- in "Eclipsed," which runs between Jan. 13 and Feb. 20 at Northlight Theatre in Skokie.
