Foreign Ministry expands strike, halts defense exports from Israel

In bid to increase salaries for ministry employees, Foreign Ministry stops providing security and trade assistance to Israeli companies abroad.

The Foreign Ministry employees committee has decided to broaden its strike as part of its effort to receive salary increases for ministry employees, and announced on Monday that all Israeli embassies will stop providing security and trade assistance to Israeli companies abroad, thus halting all defense related exports.

"We must cease all projects being treated and not start any treatment of new projects," a cable sent to the Israeli diplomats said.

The cable added that the Foreign Ministry has yet to show signs of willingness to return to negotiations to find a solution for the crisis.

Israeli ambassadors abroad were instructed earlier this week to cut off all contact with foreign ministries, prime minister's offices and president's offices in the countries in which they serve, until further notice.

The new steps will also affect the office of deputy foreign minister Danny Ayalon. Foreign Ministry employees have been instructed to cut off cooperation with Ayalon's office and not to provide him with any services.

A country like Israel cannot have workers like those, and a goverment that wont take action against such insubordination, these are not factory workers, but people dealing with Israels national security, and should be treated as soldiers when insubordination is what they practice

FM workers seem to forget they are public servants. Israeli taxpayers pay their salaries & it should be up to them whether or not they receive a raise.

With the current state of Israeli relations with the rest of the world, you might just want to fire them all and start from scratch...

Now Netanyahu must tell these foreign mimnistry workers that they must return to work within a week, or they will all forfeit their jobs. Just like Reagan did to air traffic controllers. Those that stay good negotiate a raise, those that dont return fired. no benefits

THAT GOOD FOR ISRAELI BUSINESS: the Israeli companies will either stop doing business with or for Israel - and either find other business partners or go bankrupt - or they must be paid by means in Israel not coming from his FM budget. Israeli FM - PERHAPS - could help to pay for what Lieberman obviously doesn't want to pay for out of his budget. And why would he? Shouldn't FM pay for costs like that? After all, FiM gets the profits, not FoM. Avi will make CLEAR to Israeli FiM: pay the costs yourself.

Perfect. With our foreign minister expected there today, please have your foreign ministry refuse him access to Israel, so that he can continue on to Gaza and the Westbank without having to be coached by Avigodor and Danny on how to best present a face of ambivalence to the occupation of Gaza. What a farce! Third world government at it's finest. Good Luck!

They should all ultimately be fired and replaced. Perhaps first let a judge determine if it is even legal, and if there are not such serious consequences that a strike must not be allowed. This kind of strike is very dangerous and not in the interest if Israel at all.
