KANNAPOLIS, N.C. -- Kannapolis is already known for the new North Carolina Research Campus, but soon it will also be known for music. An old building along West A Street that used to house Kannapolis police, their inmates and a courtroom will soon be the home for the North Carolina Music Hall of Fame.Ronald Reynolds owns a business next door."I think it's going to be great. Anything that draws business is good. You know, since the textile mill closed business has not been that great," he said.Organizers of the music museum said the hall of fame will represent all kinds of music and recognize more than 300 musicians and writers who are from North Carolina.Kannapolis Deputy City Manager Eddie Smith said it will add a different twist to Kannapolis and its future."We're supportive of that, and it brings a diverse group of tourists to the area that we think everyone's going to benefit from," he said. While work continues renovating the building, business owners in downtown Kannapolis are hopeful.“The way the general economy is, it hasn't been easy, but things have started getting better, more traffic, so I think it has started improving," said Mike Curb, who owns a racing museum.Renovations are expected to wrap up next month and the museum will open early next year.
