The Colombian duo, Bomba Estereo, are not missing a beat this 2011, literally!
On January 18th, Bomba Estereo released their latest EP "Ponte Bomb" via iTunes. The EP is made up of seven songs, two of which are re-mixed more than once, and another is their own bombastic cover of Technotronic's hit single "Pump up the Jam".
I have NEVER been a fan of the freestyle genre, infact, "Pump up the Jam" is the one song I skip when playing 'Just Dance' on the Wii. Originally, Bomba Estereo made their own version of this 90s hit for a Levi's project which recruited artists such as The Roots and The Shins for a re-crafting of their favorite classic songs. The new very Colombian version is called Ponte Bomb, and with Bomba Estereo's unique touch of electro-vacilon and spanglish, they hands down pump up the jam with this opening track.
Their single La Boquilla is re-mixed by Dixone and also by Julius Sylvest vs. Copia Doble 'Bounce'; both re-mixed to a T with much flavor and beats that will keep you on your feet and asking for more gozadera!
Fuego, from their album "Blow Up", is the song that made EVERYONE fall in love with the Colombian duo. This was the first time my ears over-came the genre of 'electro-tropical-urbano-sazon-and reggaeton', so fresh! Not only was the original a hit with the Sudamerican rockers, but this track was also featured in the hit drama series "Dexter". Therefore this one get's remixed FOUR times. Each version is fused with different kinds of rhythms; you have NYC's Pacha Massive adding their drum and bass touch of latin spice, then the french inspired beginnings with cool lazer sounds intertwined within the track, and there's also a very dope reggaeton/hip hop-like version. Despite the clever innovative sound found in each re-mix, I favor the 'Un Mono Azul Remix 3d', geez, just the name was cool enough. This version though, is a slow electro-cumbia and the best part is found through out the track; they use a box of matches to make music, very creative in my ears.
Bomba Estereo is currently working on their next full-length album following "Blow Up", which is set for a spring release and have formed part of the lineup for the music and arts event Coachella! Undoubtedly proving they are the next big thing in the music scene.
