PROTECTED WRECKS IN THE UK
Wrecks designated as Maritime Scheduled Ancient Monuments:
The seven remaining wrecks of the German High Seas Fleet, scuttled at Scapa Flow, Orkney on 21st June 1919 have been protected as maritime Scheduled Ancient Monuments, as have the remains of eight Fifie sailing fishing vessels giving a snapshot of boats engaged in the Scottish fishing industry at the turn of the 20th Century. A further scheduled wreck is the LOUISA, a rare example of a large seagoing merchant vessel of the mid 19th century, demonstrating the transition from timber to iron in ship construction.
