The Greens are claiming a historic victory in the ACT, picking up the final seat in the wake of the election.

After a tight preference count, Caroline Le Couteur has won a fourth seat for the Greens in Molonglo at the expense of the Liberals.

Labor now has seven seats, the Liberals six and the Greens four seats.

ACT Electoral Commissioner Phil Green announced the result last night.

"At the point where a decision was made between Caroline Le Couteur and Giulia Jones for the Liberal Party, she was 921 votes in front," he said.

The Greens will again meet the two parties in the next few days to decide who they will work with to form a minority Government.

New Greens MLA for Molonglo Shane Rattenbury says it is far and away their best ever result in the ACT.

"Last Saturday night we weren't sure that we were going to pick up this seat, but as the week's gone our vote has strengthened and for the last couple of days we've been more and more confident, so we're very pleased," he said.
