The Burmese pro-democracy leader, Aung San Suu Kyi, will be a guest director of this year's Brighton Festival. The Nobel Prize winner will not attend the event in May but organisers said it would celebrate and champion her cause.

A 20ft torpedo has been found floating five miles off Beachy Head, near a busy cross-Channel shipping lane. Fisherman Peter Storey was on board his boat when he spotted the torpedo near Eastbourne.
