Nice first effort

Arriving a bit late to the game, Postmedia have done a very decent job for their first attempt at an app. Some first impressions: The app is smooth and reasonably responsive, though the daily pictures take a while to load. I like the ability to begin reading right away, and to choose to download a story or the entire edition for later reading. The app greys out stories you've already read. It's also easy to find your favourite section and bring up the stories you want quickly. It's easy to change the font size in stories as well. They've done a fair job in recreating the newspaper experience for those of us who still read the print editions and like the process of discovering something interesting on each page. The business model seems to be to distribute the product free and rely on limited ads for support, rather than put some content behind a pay wall. Time will tell if this is successful for them long-term in generating revenue, but I think this strategy is likely to attract more readers.
Some suggestions for the next revision: Once you're into the display list of daily photos, it's not particularly easy or intuitive to exit or find your way back. I also found the font size on some of the section fronts to be too large, as not enough of the picture captions were visible to determine exactly what the stories were about. What I also missed from the normal daily paper experience were the sports statistics, the comics and stock reports. Perhaps in a future version. On the whole, a solid effort, but there's room to improve to create a richer online experience.

Awesome

This app is Awesome and is now my favorite newspaper app. Now could we have the National Post use this technology as well. The web version of the Post has issues on the ipad.

One of the few 5 stars I have given out!

Love this app! Well thought out. I used to read the Newspaper on my Kindle but found the price and content could not be justified. This may be the savior of the newspaper industry. The app has advertisements which should help the revenue stream, and the digital distribution will help. Time will tell.
