The very first National Hui was held at Tokomaru Bay in 1983. The five hundred weavers present strongly affirmed the need to be able to weave together, share and exchange knowledge.

This coming Labour weekend the Weavers National Hui is to be hosted by Ngati Kahungunu Raranga Whatu Committee at Takitimu Marae, Wairoa in the Hawkes Bay. The Hui will commence with a powhiri at 4pm on Friday 23 October.

Accommodation and meals will be provided for registered members for the nights of Friday 23rd, Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th with the group departing the marae after breakfast on Monday 26th October.

General weaving materials (harakeke) will need to be supplied by participants. It is strongly advised that visiting weavers not harvest local harakeke without a local weaver present. Please bring your own tools and specific materials. It is highly recommended that children NOT attend the hui as it is not suitable for children.

Please note that registrations are limited to 250 participants. To register please download the [[Weavers National Hui Registration Form]] or contact Kate on 04 801 7914, or email kate@maoriart.org.nz.
