Citrus is a census-designated place (CDP) in Los Angeles County, California, United States. It is located in the San Gabriel Valley between Azusa, Glendora, and Covina adjacent to another census-designated place, Charter Oak. Generally, this is referred to by locals as "unincorporated Covina" or "unincorporated Azusa". The population was 10,581 at the 2000 census.

Citrus is located at 34°6′54″N 117°53′30″W / 34.115°N 117.89167°W / 34.115; -117.89167 (34.114891, -117.891786).[1]

According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 2.3 km² (0.9 mi²), all land.

As of the census[3] of 2000, there were 10,581 people, 2,614 households, and 2,174 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 4,539.3/km² (11,784.8/mi²). There were 2,659 housing units at an average density of 1,140.7/km² (2,961.5/mi²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 52.38% White, 3.24% Black or African American, 1.54% Native American, 6.73% Asian, 0.05% Pacific Islander, 31.12% from other races, and 4.94% from two or more races. 64.84% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.

There were 2,614 households out of which 47.0% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 16.6% had a female householder with no husband present, and 16.8% were non-families. 11.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 3.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 4.03 and the average family size was 4.29.

In the CDP the population was spread out with 33.0% under the age of 18, 12.1% from 18 to 24, 31.3% from 25 to 44, 17.1% from 45 to 64, and 6.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 28 years. For every 100 females there were 98.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 94.9 males.

The median income for a household in the CDP was $55,110, and the median income for a family was $53,668. Males had a median income of $32,289 versus $27,459 for females. The per capita income for the CDP was $15,848. About 8.5% of families and 12.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including 14.6% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.

Politics

In the state legislature Citrus is located in the 24th and 29th Senate Districts, represented by Democrat Gloria J. Romero and Republican Bob Huff respectively, and in the 57th Assembly District, represented by Democrat Edward P. Hernandez. Federally, Citrus is located in California's 26th and 32nd congressional districts, which have Cook PVIs of R +4 and D +17 respectively[4] and are represented by Republican David Dreier and Democrat Judy Chu respectively.
