This week in women's sports

February 23, 1994
Speed skater Bonnie Blair dominated the 1994 Lillehammer Winter Olympics, winning gold medals in the 500- and 1000-meter races -- making her the only woman to win five Olympic gold medals in individual events. To celebrate, she climbed into the stands, still wearing her skates, to hug her family and friends. Her total of six Olympic medals (five golds and a bronze) also made her the most successful American Winter Olympian in history.
