Man dies after being run over by truck
An Avery County man died early Saturday morning after he was run over by a pickup truck at the Maymead site on N.C. 105 in Boone on Friday.
Charles Ulery Jr., 37, of Elk Park, was run over by a Ford F-250 as it backed up in the parking lot just before noon, said Trooper Zachary Jennings of the N.C. Highway Patrol. Ulery was talking on a cell phone when the accident occurred, he said. Watauga Medics responded to the critically injured man, who was later taken to Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem. Ulery died at 2:47 a.m. Saturday, Jennings said. Jennings said he did not believe the truck was moving at a high speed when the accident occurred. The driver, Kenneth Carroll Jr., 47, of Butler, Tenn., has not been charged. Jennings said he would consult with the district attorney's office to see whether charges would be filed.
