RenewableUK - UKCPC Marine Cables Seminar
There is an increasing use of the United Kingdom Continental Shelf to transmit either electricity or data through seabed marine cables. With the considerable growth of both sectors over the next 20-30 years, it is important that they learn from each other and co-operate as fully as possible. RenewableUK and the UKCPC will hold a seminar on Marine Cables in London on Thursday 7th October 2010 at the Hotel Russell in Russell Square, London. Further details.

RenewableUK Offshore Wind 2010
RenewableUK is delighted to announce that over 1,900 people attended its ninth annual offshore wind event, representing more than a 100% increase on the 2009 event attendance figures. The event has been hailed as the leading event for UK offshore wind. Further information.

UK Offshore Wind: Staying on track
The work reported here has been undertaken under contract to arrive at a picture for the delivery of offshore wind energy capacity in the UK until 2015. This work is an update of some aspects of two prior BWEA studies – Offshore Wind: At a Crossroads and Moving Up a Gear.

UK Offshore Wind: Charting the Right Course
The offshore wind industry is an important source of future energy supply for the UK, although it is a sector which has yet to fully mature. Project roll-out in the UK has gathered pace with offshore wind build in 2009 expected to be similar to onshore wind build for the first time. Currently, the UK is also the largest global market for offshore wind.

BWEA Offshore 09BWEA Offshore Conference 2009
Over 900 people attended BWEA's eighth annual offshore wind event in Westminster, the leading event dedicated to the development of offshore wind energy in the UK. View details.

BWEA publishes "Actions for 33 GW" report.
In July 2008 BWEA presented the "Actions for 33 GW" report to BERR. The report aims to help Government to ensure that every barrier to maximising delivery is identified and that a clear path is set out for overcoming these barriers. This report has since been published and was launched at the BWEA 30 conference in October 2008. Click here to access the report.

Following BWEA's offshore conference on June 4th, BWEA and the membership identified an urgent need to debate the Crown Estate's R3 announcement. BWEA quickly organised and held a seminar at the Grosvenor Hotel in London on 23rd June. The event was well attended with 36 member companies filling the available space to capacity. The purpose of the event was threefold:

  • To identify any significant concerns arising from the Crown Estate's announcement of Round 3 of offshore wind development
  • To suggest practical ways in which the current proposals might be improved.
  • The seminar outputs will be presented to the Crown Estate with a view to informing and influencing the Round 3 programme.

The outputs were submitted to The Crown Estate for consideration before their recent Round 3 seminars. These outputs are now available on the BWEA member's website. The seminar's introduction presentation can be viewed here (PDF format).
