PROSPECTIVE SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS must register with the Regional
Office of Education #38 in order to be employed in any of the districts
in Logan, Mason, or Menard Counties. Applicants will be required to do
the following, as set forth in the Illinois School Code (105 ILCS
5/21-9):
Provide proof of identification (valid driver’s license or state
I.D.)
Provide proof of a TB test (within the last 90 days before
application)
Provide proof of a physical examination (within the last 90 days
before application)
Provide an official, sealed transcript showing a Bachelor’s Degree
from an institute of higher learning accredited by the North Central
Association or other comparable regional accrediting association in an
unopened envelope
Pass a fingerprint-based criminal history records check and checks
of the Statewide Sex Offender Database and Statewide Child Murderer and
Violent Offender Against Youth Database
Each applicant will be required to pay a
$100 nonrefundable fee,
consisting of the following:
$50 for the fingerprint-based background check
$30 for certificate application
$20 for certificate registration
Only cash, money order, or valid check will be accepted. All fees
must be paid at the time of initial application.
Upon providing the above-mentioned information, passing the criminal
background check, and paying the appropriate fees, an applicant will
receive a Substitute Teacher authorization certificate signed and sealed
by the Regional Superintendent and a Type 39 (Substitute) Teaching
Certificate. Applicants will be required to provide this authorization
to employing school districts, which will then make a copy to retain in
their files.
All individuals possessing authorization from another region must
still register their certificates with the Logan/Mason/Menard Regional
Office of Education and pay a $20 registration fee before being
permitted to substitute teach in the region.
Substitutes currently registered with ROE #38 who obtained their
certificates AND background checks before January 1, 2011, will not need
to provide this information to the ROE until their current certificates
expire.
School districts may require additional information to be on file in
their respective offices for the prospective substitute teachers. Please
