“These summary statistics show that the war on cancer has not gone well,” says the article’s author, Reynold Spector. “This is in marked contrast to death rates from stroke and cardiovascular disease (adjusted for the age and size of the population), which have fallen by 74 percent and 64 percent, respectively, from 1950 through 2006; and by 60 percent and 52 percent, respectively, from 1975 through 2006 (Kolata 2009a).

One would think that applying all that modern science has to offer over the last 40 years would have brought us far closer to eradicating cancer. Just compare it to other technology areas. Our cell phones now are more powerful computers than the largest supercomputers of the time.

But instead, cancer rates have increased during that span of time, and now surpass heart disease as the number one killer of Americans between the ages of 45 to 74. The odds are now very high that you or someone you know has cancer, is dying or has already died from it.

Why has “the War on Cancer” Failed so Miserably?

Writing for the Skeptical Inquirer, Reynold Spector lists the following six reasons for the failure:

We don’t understand the cause/pathogenesis in most cases of cancer	Most treatments (except surgery)are nonspecific cell killers and not “smart”	Clinical trials and the grant system don’t foster innovation
Screening for useful drugs against cancer cells has not worked	Animal models of cancer are often inadequate	Unproductive “fads” in research come and go

However, while these may factor into the equation of failure, I believe this list is yet another example of exactly what’s wrong with the entire system, which is: ignoring the fact that cancer is likely a man-made disease caused primarily by toxic overload.

Just a few months ago, I wrote about a fascinating study into ancient mummies that determined cancer is not a “natural” disease at all, and genetics are not a primary factor. Tumors were extremely rare until recent times, when pollution and poor diet became issues. So why are the medical and science communities, by and large, ignoring these basics?

Getting to the Root of the Problem

I strongly believe the cancer rates are escalating because they are in no way shape or form addressing the underlying cause of most cancers. Instead, most of the research is directed towards expensive drugs that target late stages of the disease and greatly enrich the drug companies but simply do not prevent cancer.

If ever there was an area in which an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure it is cancer. I strongly believe that if you are able to work your way up to the advanced health plan, that you will virtually eliminate the risk of most cancers.

(NaturalNews) A recent chemical spill at a water treatment facility in Rock Island, Ill., required the assistance of an emergency relief crew decked in the very same type of hazmat suits being worn by workers at the Fukushima Dai-Ichi nuclear plant in Japan. Except instead of radiation, the leaked chemical at the water plant was actually hydrofluorosilicic acid, a chemical fluoride component commonly added to drinking supplies for the stated purpose of preventing cavities. This fluoride chemical is so hazardous that it actually began to burn through parking lot cement in Rock Island before emergency crews arrived on the scene.

According to reports from WQAD News 8 in Moline, a tanker truck delivering the fluoride began to overflow, leaking the chemical directly onto the parking lot where it spilled down towards the street. Free-range egg ban shuts bed and breakfast

A P.E.I. bed and breakfast that has been operating for decades has decided to close down next year rather than stop serving eggs from its own hens because of a government order.

The Doctor’s Inn in Tyne Valley, northwest of Summerside, also operates an organic farm. Paul and Jean Offer sell their organic vegetables and free-range eggs at the Charlottetown Farmers Market, and offer the produce to customers at the Doctor’s Inn at breakfast and dinner time.

But after years of serving their own eggs, the provincial Department of Health has told them they have to stop. The department said it’s a long-standing policy that food service operations can only use federally inspected eggs.

The idea of having to buy eggs from the supermarket, rather than use their own from the 75 hens in the coop out back, was too much for the Offers. They will operate this season, and then close the business down.

“When the Department of Health came around and said, ‘No, you’re not allowed to use your own eggs, you have to use store bought ones, or inspected ones,’ we just turned around,” said Paul Offer. Read more…

EU herbal medicines law set for legal challenge

An EU ban on unregistered herbal medicine will be difficult to implement fairly and is set to be challenged in the courts, campaigners have claimed in advance of an impending deadline for the sector.

On 1 May the EU’s Traditional Herbal Medicinal Products Directive – first passed in 2004 – will come into full effect, compelling herbalists to conform to new registered standards.

The initiative affects manufactured products sold online or in shops without the supervision of a practitioner. From May onwards the distribution and purchase of such unregistered medicinal herbal remedies will become illegal.

Campaigners for the industry are set to challenge the full introduction of the directive and claim that member states are adopting varying standards to its implementation.

Dr. Robert Verkerk, executive and scientific director of the UK-based Alliance for Natural Health – an NGO promoting natural remedies – said: “At the end of April we plan to challenge the directive first of all in the High Court in London, on the grounds that it is disproportionate, non-transparent and discriminatory. We then hope to have the case referred to the European Court of Justice in Luxembourg.”

Verkerk said that countries such as the Czech Republic and the Netherlands were adopting a liberal approach to implementation which meant that many herbal remedies could be construed as ordinary foodstuffs and thus escape regulation.

He added that other states, notably the UK and Belgium, were approaching the directive more vigorously, outlawing many more unregistered herbal remedies. Read more…

Swedish researchers explore Somali-autism link

Swedish researchers want to gain access to a databank of blood tests taken from all babies born in Sweden in order to shed light on an apparent heightened incidence of autism among the country’s Somali population.

The researchers at the Autism centre for small children in Stockholm want to see if the samples contained in the so-called PKU register, which is used on newborns to detect a slew of illnesses, can explain the differences in levels of autism between children of Somali and children of Swedish origin.

“We want to look at the vitamin D levels at a very early stage in children who are later diagnosed with autism,” Elisabeth Fernell at the Autism centre for small children told the Dagens Nyheter (DN) daily.

The tests will be conducted during the spring and include all of the autistic Somali children currently living in Stockholm, the newspaper reported.

Elisabeth Fernell argued that the study is unique and that results will first become known in the autumn when the samples have returned from the laboratory in Australia where they will be sent for tests.

The lack of sunlight in Sweden, combined with the use of sun protection creams and general precautions taken to avoid direct sun exposure is known to cause vitamin D deficiencies. Vitamin D deficiencies could be a contributing factor to the incidence of depression and some experts believe, autism. Read more…

Below is a sobering look at the Chernobyl disaster and the many men who fought and died trying to contain it. Earth Hour: A Despicable Hoax

Nothing embodies the corporate hijacked environmental movement more than the despicable hoax that is “Earth Hour.” Once a year, we are bombarded worldwide by a feel-good advertising campaign on TV, radio, billboards, fliers, in the newspaper and in every other conceivable way for an event that involves turning off the lights for one hour per year, to “take a stand against climate change.”

What Al Gore doesn’t tell you: CO2 has been 1000′s of times
higher during the Cretaceous period and sea levels have been
so high North America featured an inland sea. Antarctica was
covered in temperate forests and dinosaurs.

Not only has science failed to prove that anthropogenic climate change is happening – to the extent proponents like the White House’s John Holdren have relabeled “Global Warming” to “Global Climate Change” to the now most ambiguous version, “Global Climate Disruption,” but the evidence suggests that the “scientists” peddling this theory have defrauded the public again and again. Worth noting, is that John Holdren himself is a creature of Harvard’s Belfer Center, which is named in fact, after corrupt oil tycoon Robert Belfer. Much of the policy coming out of the Belfer Center ends up in front of delegates attending the very fraudulent and ineffective climate change summits held, most recently in Copenhagen and Cancun.

When we look at say, Earth Hour’s corporate sponsors, or the WWF’s corporate sponsors, or the myriad of banksters and oilmen that steer climate policy centers like Harvard’s Belfer Center we should realize that not only has big oil and the rest of the corporations defiling the planet hijacked environmentalism along with multitudes of well-intentioned activists, but these corporate interests are using it to defile the planet and its population further, only now with a perceived moral justification.

Could we expect anything less from an organization so large, with so many corporate affiliations?

The proposed solutions of course, involve greater consolidations of power in the government’s hands to solve these problems – the solutions being carbon taxes that get paid directly to private bankers, rules, regulations and laws that only megalithic corporations can afford to comply with thus shutting out competition, and a laundry list of other non-effectual solutions that only empower the very corporations that have caused real, verifiable environmental damage.

perhaps the most universally recognized mongers of greed
and human misery, actually care about the environment is
ridiculous. When you consider Deutsche is one of the “leading
participants” in the carbon credit market, then it makes sense.

What about real environmental hazards? How about the unfettered nuclear industry, depleted uranium being dumped over the ever expanding theaters of conflict the West is engaged in, or the genetically modified plants and animals that are displacing and corrupting the natural species that inhabit this planet? Or how about the ineffective, logistical & petroleum intensive mega-agricultural industry, poisonous herbicides and pesticides dumped onto our food by companies like Monsanto, free-trade that sees tons of diesel fuel burned to bring plastic trinkets from Chinese factories to America’s shores, and the list goes on ad infinitum.

Real solutions generally don’t involve corporations or government, in fact, as a necessity must exclude them. The marriage between corporate interests and government regulations should be something all of us can agree on, regardless of where we sit on the political spectrum.

Real solutions involve a real education in science, technology, design, and manufacturing. This empowers people in all levels of society to accurately assess problems and apply local solutions. This, coupled with modern manufacturing technology enables more to be done on a local level, short-circuiting the petroleum intensive logistical chains WWF sponsors like Walmart couldn’t live without.

Organic farming on a local level coupled with local farmers’ markets eliminates entirely the need for Monsanto poison, fertilizers, and genetically modified franken-crops, along with the replacement of the petroleum intensive logistical networks that distribute big-agri’s products.

In fact, when you think about it, almost all of these real solutions involve real community and local action. These are not solutions that involve policies, taxes, and regulations, but rather technology, education, constructive, pragmatic, technical solutions that not only would make our environment more livable, but make our local economies and communities more viable and self-sufficient. The catch is, and the reason why this isn’t being done, you will notice that none of these activities require WWF sponsors like Walmart, Nike, IBM, Toyota, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, HSBC, Citi, IKEA, Nokia, etc.

Does it make sense then, to see why real problems and their solutions have become the target of hijackers like the corporate conglomeration that is the WWF? Does it make sense to see them offering “alternative” centralized, corporate dependent solutions that replace local activism?

Please investigate for yourself, WWF’s corporate sponsors and see how many of them end up on this list, “Naming Names,” which exposes the corporations and special interests that keep us at perpetual war and on the edge of financial ruin.

Do we honestly think that these corporations care about the responsible stewardship of the planet? Do they care about people? Do they care about the environment? Are they not at the center of the most horrific scandals, atrocities, and wars of our age? If you care about your environment, do yourself a favor, keep your lights on during the next “Earth Hour”, and do some reading on how you can empower yourself, your community, and become independent from the petroleum hungry, world ravaging corporations that are promoting their version of “environmentalism” through hijacked organizations like the WWF. They have created in their own image a human-hating Malthusian religion of servile obedience to a world government that “promises” to fix the problems they themselves have created.

Let’s be smarter than this, let’s look past the slick public relations stunt that is “Earth Hour,” and look around locally at real solutions. Think and act locally. You know what’s wrong with your hometown and most likely you know how to fix it. Most importantly you and your neighbors can see it is in your best interest to do so, and it doesn’t require charlatans like Al Gore to hold your hand, paying him carbon taxes while you do it.

Behaviour drugs given to four-year-olds prompt calls for inquiry

Children as young as four are being given Ritalin-style medication for behavioural problems in breach of NHS guidelines, the Guardian has discovered, prompting the leading psychological society to call for a national review.

Family-based therapy is recommended for treating children with ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder), with prescription drugs used only for children over six years old and as a last resort.

The figures, based on data from 479 GPs, show prescription rates were highest for children aged six to 12, doubling to just over eight per 1,000 in the five years up to 2008. Children aged 13 to 17 had the second highest rate at six per 1,000, while those aged 25 and over had less than one per 1,000.

Concern is greatest over children under six who should not be receiving drugs at all, says the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (Nice).

There are no reliable figures for how many children under six have been given Ritalin. But Professor Tim Kendall, joint director of the National Collaborating Centre for Mental Health, who chaired the Nice guideline committee, confirmed that he had heard reliable reports of children in nursery and pre-school being prescribed medication unnecessarily, and that it was often parents who were putting pressure on GPs.

Food, water now radioactive in Japan; sales halted while governments play the radiation doublespeak game

(NaturalNews) As the situation in Fukushima continues to deteriorate, radiation levels keep rising. Now the food and water near (and inside) Tokyo is becoming irradiated. Reuters reports that the water in Tokyo is now contaminated with radioactive iodine (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011…).

AP is also reporting that both spinach and milk from Fukushima is radioactive, and a few officials are slowly admitting that the level of radioactivity is “beyond safe levels” for human consumption.

The IAEA is also confirming now that Japan has halted the sale of food products from the Fukushima area (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011…), although official seem to be saying that the food will be safe to eat if you just “wait a little while” for the radiation levels to fall. Sounds scrumptious.

The radiation game

What we’re seeing now with the food reports, the radioactive water and even news from the Fukushima nuclear plant itself is a desperate attempt to downplay the dangers from radiation.

The Japanese government, for starters, has maintained a complete blackout on reporting accurate radiation levels from Fukushima. Those levels are obviously too high for the public to see, and that alone should be worrisome. (http://www.naturalnews.com/031758_F…)

As radiation recently started falling on California, U.S. authorities practically stampeded over each other to see who could say “No danger!” the quickest.

It’s a line straight out of the Mad Max films: “What’s a little fallout, eh?”

Now in Japan, they’ve been playing the radiation game with their descriptions of danger there, too. At first, when the early radiation became detectable, it was described as the same amount as “a chest X-ray.” Don’t worry! It’s just like going to the doctor’s office.

Now, in a charming quote published this morning, chief cabinet secretary Yukio Edano is upping the ante from chest X-rays to CT scans, saying:

“Even though you continue to consume these [foods] for a year, a total radiation level that will be taken inside the body will be comparable to one run of CT scan.”

What he’s not saying, of course, is that a CT scan can deliver from 100 – 600 times the radiation of a chest X-ray. And CT scans actually cause 29,000 cancers a year (http://www.naturalnews.com/028621_C…).

To now say that Japan’s radioactive food is “as safe as a CT scan” isn’t exactly comforting.

I can’t wait to see what they’re going to compare the radiation to next. “Don’t worry, eating this food is as safe as getting twenty mammograms!”

Or better yet, when the radiation levels get really high, they might say, “It’s as safe as a radiation treatment for cancer!” You know, the kind that makes your hair fall out and leaves burn marks across your skull.

Locked up and sedated: Dementia patients are denied basic rights, says damning report

Elderly patients with dementia are being illegally locked in their rooms and sedated in hospitals and care homes, a report warns.

Staff are routinely flouting official guidelines and depriving confused residents of their basic human rights in the belief that it is in their best interests.

A highly critical study warns that hospitals and care homes are breaking the law by ‘restraining’ the elderly without authority – locking them in rooms overnight, sedating them or even binding them to beds and chairs.

The inquiry by the Care Quality Commission points out that nurses and care home staff often resort to such measures to prevent patients coming to harm through falls and other injuries – but by law they must apply for permission. The commission, the independent regulator of health and social care in England, warned that many staff are unaware of this.

One elderly man with dementia was locked in his room at a care home every night for ten hours at a time.

Nursing staff did not check on him until morning and as he was so confused he would have struggled to use the alarm if he needed help.

Another resident was made to stay in his bed all day simply because care home staff were waiting for the delivery of a specialist chair. Read more…

U.S. health authorities could be blocking Americans from obtaining the radiation-fighting drug potassium iodide, even as the threat of a radioactive cloud from the stricken Fukushima nuclear plant affecting the United States prompts panic buying, which has led to stocks of the drug running out across the country.

High strength potassium iodide is a once-a-day-pill than protects the thyroid gland from radiation and cancer caused by radioactive iodine. There are also weaker liquid forms of the drug that provide less protection, but supplies of these are also running low.

A caller to The Alex Jones Show today related how he tried to obtain potassium iodide via prescription from his doctor having failed to buy it over the counter due to stocks being completely exhausted.

“Yesterday afternoon (roughly 1400PST), the Urgent Care in Ventura, California, denied me a prescription for KI (potassium iodide): an over the counter, salt,” writes Michael (surname withheld). “The reason for denying me a prescription was predicated upon the Doctors conversation, with both CDC and DHSC representatives, whom discouraged it. After asking her if she took government orders, she replied, “No, but I do take their recommendations.”

“As KI is unavailable in Ventura right now and I was unable to get a prescription, which the pharmacy required, I am still without a supply of KI,” adds Michael.

The U.S. government has so far refused to stockpile supplies of the drug despite the threat of a nuclear disaster nearing the scale of Chernobyl.

“The federal government has never purchased enough to meet that standard,” reports CNN. “There is currently only enough of the medication available for populations living within 10 miles of nuclear reactors in the United States, according to U.S. officials.”

We are also receiving other unconfirmed reports that certain chemists and health stores that do have small amounts of the drug are refusing to sell it to customers, citing the excuse that it could be used for the production of methamphetamine.

As we documented in our earlier article, stocks of the drug are all but exhausted across the United States, with packets of 14 tablets selling for around $300 dollars on eBay. We have received scores of emails and calls from Alex Jones Show listeners who cannot find potassium iodide anywhere.

The massive surge in sales of the drug has been driven by the worsening nuclear crisis in Japan and reports that the radiation cloud now starting to affect Tokyo and other areas could reach the west coast of the United States within a week.

Meanwhile, the panic buying that has gripped online health retailers as well as stores across America has prompted Amazon.com to issue an email to every customer who tries to purchase potassium iodide, noting how the situation in Japan has, “rightfully unnerved the masses,” in America.

“We have been inundated with thousands of orders for Potassium Iodide, from all corners of the world. The warehouse stock and the manufacturer’s warehouse were emptied on the weekend. The manufacturer is trying to make more of these tablets to meet demand but our waiting period is expected to be at least one month at this stage,” states the email.

Amazon is encouraging its customers to purchase Thyroshield, a liquid form of Potassium Iodide, instead of the stronger potassium iodide. Only potassium iodide at a minimum strength of 130 mg is guaranteed to completely protect against radioactive fallout, although weaker liquid forms will go some way to offering protection against low doses of radiation.

It is important to stress that high-strength potassium iodide of the 130 mg or above variety should only be taken in a nuclear fallout emergency and not under any other circumstances.

EU states to discuss ‘reasons’ for national GMO bans

EUOBSERVER / BRUSSELS – EU environment ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday (14 March) will discuss a list of possible reasons why individual member states could opt to ban the cultivation of genetically-modified crops in future.

“Public morals”, “public order” and “cultural policy” are among the options listed in a European Commission working document, seen by this website.

The paper builds on a commission proposal last July to partially renationalise decisions over GMO cultivation, after years of deadlock in the area.

Under the proposal, the EU would continue to approve GMO cultivation along environmental and human health lines, after which member states could then opt to ban a particular crop, based on a different set of criteria.

The plan has met with considerable opposition however, with France and Germany concerned that it could result in the fragmentation of the EU’s internal market, as well as run into trouble with the World Trade Organisation. Governments have also pressed the commission to provide details of the criteria they could use when deciding on a ban, with debate on the subject now set for Monday.

Under a “public morals” option, the commission suggests religious, philosophical and ethical concerns are all potential reasons for a national ban. Read more…

Scientists deliberately create 127 hybrid viruses from H1N1, then warn they are dangerous

(NaturalNews) Chinese researchers recently warned the world in a study that the H1N1 virus is capable of combining with various other viruses to create “novel pandemic strains.” Published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Science, the paper states that with the proper mixing host in place, viruses can swap genes and mutate into new strains — and researchers discovered this by deliberately creating 127 of them in a laboratory.

After concocting these 127 hybrid viruses, researchers found that eight of them were more harmful than their parent viruses when tested in mice, according to a Reuters report. And researchers warn that these deadly mutant strains may one day be a serious threat to public health because they cause pneumonia, edema, and hemorrhaging.

“The main message is that the H1N1 can combine in certain ways with the H9N2 to create reassortants and some of the viruses had an increased pathogenicity comparing with the parent viruses in mice,” wrote Jinhua Liu, lead author of the study from the College of Veterinary Medicine at the China Agricultural University in Beijing, in an email to Reuters. Japan Suspends Use Of Some Pfizer, Sanofi Vaccines

TOKYO – (Dow Jones) – Japan’s health ministry said it has temporarily suspended the use of Prevnar, made by Pfizer Inc. (PFE), and ActHIB, made by Sanofi- Aventis S.A. (SNY), as it investigates whether the deaths of four children are linked to the pediatric vaccines.

The children, whose ages range between six months and two years old, died after receiving either Prevnar, ActHIB or a combination of vaccinations, the ministry said in a statement. The deaths were reported between March 2-4.

Prevnar is a pneumococcal conjugate vaccine, while ActHIB is a type b haemophilus influenzae vaccine.

In 2009, Pfizer suspended distribution and quarantined a batch of Prevnar in the Netherlands following reports of the deaths of three infants around the time of vaccination.

The health ministry said that the suspension will be in place pending the results of an investigation made by a group of medical experts into the deaths that is expected to be released on March 8. Read more…

When a rep selling a popular long-term hair straightening treatment visited Karen Dandy’s salon last year, the hairdresser was intrigued.

Assembling her team of stylists and two willing models, Karen watched as the treatment — dubbed the Brazilian blow-dry, and loved by celebrities such as Lindsay Lohan and Nicole Richie — was applied.

Could it, as promised, tame curly, frizzy hair in just three hours and leave women with that ‘perfect blow-dry’ look that lasted for months?

They never found out.

Little more than 30 minutes into the process, when the models’ hair was heated with straighteners, all five people in the room began suffering headaches and nausea, with stinging eyes and sore throats. Karen and her staff found themselves inhaling a noxious chemical mist that rose to the salon ceiling and hung there in a cloud.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Karen, owner of the Spires salon in East Grinstead, West Sussex, was unconvinced that the product — made by a leading British company — was safe. Despite interest from clients who loved the idea of mirror-smooth hair for up to three months at a time, she turned it down.

A few months later, however, after being told the product had been re-formulated, she gave the rep another chance. Once again, a model was found; this time, Karen’s 23-year-old daughter Charlotte, one of the stylists.

Expectations were high but, again, the room filled with the familiar, pungent odour as headaches and nausea claimed the watching team.

‘It obviously wasn’t safe — and the irony is that it didn’t even achieve a good result,’ says Karen.

‘Charlotte’s hair looked brittle and burned at the ends.’

Worryingly, given this has become one of the most fashionable and popular hair treatments in Britain today, Karen’s experience is not an isolated case of a ‘rogue’ batch of straightening treatments causing harmful side-effects.

In the U.S., makers of the Brazilian Blowout — one of the most popular forms of the treatment — are currently facing a class action lawsuit from 200 people (and counting) who say the product has damaged their health.

The stylist who launched the action, Kimberley Ryley, says every one of her 225 clients reported some kind of symptom from headaches and eye irritation to dermatitis, allergic reactions, chest pain, asthma, insomnia and depression.

Scientists probe honeybee losses

Researchers are trying to identify the reasons behind honeybee colony collapse, which significantly affects the global agricultural market.

Mass deaths of honeybees affect more than 30 percent of bee colonies in the US and over 20 percent in some European countries, Reuters reported.

Scientists have found some probable causes of colony collapse disorder (CCD), such as blood-feeding parasites, bee viruses, fungi, pesticide exposure and decreased plant diversity, which leads to poor nutrition for honeybees.

“It’s a complex interaction of several different factors that are causing bees to die, resulting in quick colony decline,” said entomologist and chief researcher at the US Department of Agriculture’s Bee Research Lab in Beltsville, Maryland Jeff Pettis.

Some 52 of the world’s 112 leading crops rely on pollination and honeybee losses can greatly affect the world economy as the value of insect pollination, mainly by bees, is put at about USD 212 billion.

Experts believe the increase in human population and the bee decline will lead to a global crisis with limited crops and soaring food prices.

No definite solution has been found for the problem but some scientists blame commercial agricultural pesticides such as clothianidin, which they believe is responsible for the death of millions of bees near farming areas. Read more…
