And is it just me but don't these lists come out every few months. They're pointless and lead to countless forum posts about how a game has been missed out or how some title only they liked should be number 1. Pointless...
An interesting list and gaming taste is always subjective depending on the the people compiling them. I would liked to have read the reasoning behind the Goldeneye positioning though. It is surprising it did not make the top 30 considering it was such a ground-breaking and successful title.
Golden Eye (N64) at #55 & Super Mario Kart (SNES) at #13!!!!! Wot no Excitebike (arcade, nes, 64)in top 100! Now I know never to be tempted to buy Off Nin Mag, their reviews will be way off the mark. The boys who have compiled this list, have they actualy played all of Nintendo's finest??? guess not!
I'm not quite sure you read why they picked it number one. I understand their reasons ,for the influence and significance the first Mario game had on the world, without which we may not have had all the other games on the list.
From a purely gaming point of view of course the 3rd one is better and to the idiot who said Ocarina should be below Windwaker, you really don't have a clue.
One last thing...anything from any of the official games mags is absolute crap, read Edge or Games.
Mario Kart Wii is overrated. The AI in it is way, way, way too hard in the later cups, and although the online is admittedly brilliant, it is rubbish in 4 or 3 player matches offline. Having it the best game of the year is pushing it a bit, but having it 4th or 5th place in the top 100 best Nintendo games ever is completely crazy. There are much better Mario Karts than Mario Kart Wii, and they should have been where it is in the top 100.
Lame list. Just looking at the positions of Goldeneye (the first FPS that embraced the concept of realism) and the original Pokemon sadden me.
In the top 100 list that came with the magazine, they claimed that Goldeneye is not as good as they remembered it to be, to explain its position in the list. The funny thing is, that is true with a lot of games, some of which were put much higher than Goldeneye.
I may be a minority, but I really think that Majora's mask is better than Ocarina of Time. While OoTperfected the traditional Zelda plot, MM had a more original and deep plot, dozens of sidequests and was more complex. Majora's Mask and Termina never appeared again in the series, while Hyrule and Ganondorf have been used over and over, and that plot is starting to seem boring and unoriginal. But what really p**sess me off is the fact that Phantom Hourglass is in a higher position than MM! I mean, come on! It's not such a great game! It kinda bores you after you finished it, while most of other zelda games you still have things to do after you finish it. Also, I don't think Super Mario Bros. should be in the first place. It may have been the first Super Mario and a great symbol of gaming, but many other Super Mario games are better (my favorite mario game is super mario world). Super Mario Brothers 2 I consider to be the worst Mario ever done ( not counting those mario educatioal s**t games). It was not even a mario game! The real Super Mario Brothers 2 was only released in Japan at that time because they thought it was to hard to th western gamer, and was later released over here as Super Mario: The Lost Levels in the Super Mario All-Stars. In my list, it wouldnt eve be on the top 200. Metroid Zero Mission should be in a higher position, I consider it to be the best 2-d metroid. Mortal Kombat for the SNES should appear, it's a really good fighting game, I consider it to be better than Street Fighter. Pokémon leafgreen and firered are better than Diamond/Pearl. The rest is kinda ok, there are still some things i didnt like about this list but my reply is long enough.
