Official Nintendo Magazine has just published its list of the 100 greatest games ever.

Every game on the list has been released on a Nintendo system in the UK via physical boxed copy, or been made available in the UK via the Virtual Console, plus WiiWare titles count too.

The ONM team says it spent months making the list and that it caused plenty of sleepless night and arguments, so don't forget to have your say in the comments section below.

I disagree completely with the Top 10. Super Mario Bros on the NES was completely outclassed by Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario 64. And Mario Kart Wii? Don't even get me started on that...
JayMoyles on 6 Mar '09
Ocarina should not be above windwaker, super mario 3 above mario 1. A few other surprises but an ok list.
andyman949 on 6 Mar '09
If you really think Windwaker should be above Ocarina then you're definately in the minority. You can make your own list though if it makes you happy.
ledickolas on 6 Mar '09
And is it just me but don't these lists come out every few months. They're pointless and lead to countless forum posts about how a game has been missed out or how some title only they liked should be number 1. Pointless...
ledickolas on 6 Mar '09
An interesting list and gaming taste is always subjective depending on the the people compiling them. I would liked to have read the reasoning behind the Goldeneye positioning though. It is surprising it did not make the top 30 considering it was such a ground-breaking and successful title.
noblehouse on 6 Mar '09
Lame list. Just looking at the positions of Goldeneye (the first FPS that embraced the concept of realism) and the original Pokemon sadden me.
Biggwedge on 6 Mar '09
Golden Eye (N64) at #55 & Super Mario Kart (SNES) at #13!!!!!
Wot no Excitebike (arcade, nes, 64)in top 100!
Now I know never to be tempted to buy Off Nin Mag, their reviews will be way off the mark.
The boys who have compiled this list, have they actualy played all of Nintendo's finest??? guess not!
gmctyphoon on 6 Mar '09
World Tour is way to high. Goldeneye should have easily made the top ten.
That's my main complaints after reading quickly through the list.
Klodrik on 7 Mar '09
Evertone has different opinions but Mario Kart Wii in the top ten?! Rubbish, it comes nowhere near the original, or probably even 64.
svensk101 on 7 Mar '09
I think theyre letting nostalgia rule the list a little bit.

Super Mario bros (The very first one) is nowhere near the best game Ninty have produced. Not only is it technically inferior to its later versions its less fun and more repetitive.
__SpUtNiK__ on 7 Mar '09
The order of which is subjective but so many great games.
higgins78 on 7 Mar '09
Nostalgia I see
brad.storch on 7 Mar '09
Possibly one of the worst top 100 lists I have ever seen.
superpaperlink on 7 Mar '09
The same old unoriginal crap I've come to expect.

Move F-Zero GX from 92 to Mario Kart Wii's place and you're a quarter of the way there.

SMB 3 was miles better than SMB, Diamond and Pearl were pretty poor, same goes with Dark Conflict. Where's Unirally on this list?

JumpFalcon on 7 Mar '09
It's more like a list of 100 good games rather than a countdown of them, isn't it..?
Rum Rapture on 7 Mar '09
I'm not quite sure you read why they picked it number one. I understand their reasons ,for the influence and significance the first Mario game had on the world, without which we may not have had all the other games on the list.

From a purely gaming point of view of course the 3rd one is better and to the idiot who said Ocarina should be below Windwaker, you really don't have a clue.

One last thing...anything from any of the official games mags is absolute crap, read Edge or Games.
jdkoke on 8 Mar '09

At least it's higher than TP, and to be fair, Wind Waker and Ocarina are pretty comparable.

EDIT: I just noticed the lack of Gold/Silver/Crystal on this list: in my opinion they were the best in the series and should be close or in the top 10.
JumpFalcon on 8 Mar '09
Secret of Mana so low? Come on!

That's absurd, especially when Okami comes so high in the list despite its flawed painting controls.

As for Mario games, New SMB at 30? Now that's overrated.
d574xm on 9 Mar '09
Mario Kart Wii is overrated. The AI in it is way, way, way too hard in the later cups, and although the online is admittedly brilliant, it is rubbish in 4 or 3 player matches offline. Having it the best game of the year is pushing it a bit, but having it 4th or 5th place in the top 100 best Nintendo games ever is completely crazy. There are much better Mario Karts than Mario Kart Wii, and they should have been where it is in the top 100.
Cyberman on 14 Mar '09
Lame list. Just looking at the positions of Goldeneye (the first FPS that embraced the concept of realism) and the original Pokemon sadden me.

In the top 100 list that came with the magazine, they claimed that Goldeneye is not as good as they remembered it to be, to explain its position in the list. The funny thing is, that is true with a lot of games, some of which were put much higher than Goldeneye.

(Sorry for the double post)

I may be a minority, but I really think that Majora's mask is better than Ocarina of Time. While OoTperfected the traditional Zelda plot, MM had a more original and deep plot, dozens of sidequests and was more complex. Majora's Mask and Termina never appeared again in the series, while Hyrule and Ganondorf have been used over and over, and that plot is starting to seem boring and unoriginal. But what really p**sess me off is the fact that Phantom Hourglass is in a higher position than MM! I mean, come on! It's not such a great game! It kinda bores you after you finished it, while most of other zelda games you still have things to do after you finish it.
Also, I don't think Super Mario Bros. should be in the first place. It may have been the first Super Mario and a great symbol of gaming, but many other Super Mario games are better (my favorite mario game is super mario world). Super Mario Brothers 2 I consider to be the worst Mario ever done ( not counting those mario educatioal s**t games). It was not even a mario game! The real Super Mario Brothers 2 was only released in Japan at that time because they thought it was to hard to th western gamer, and was later released over here as Super Mario: The Lost Levels in the Super Mario All-Stars. In my list, it wouldnt eve be on the top 200.
Metroid Zero Mission should be in a higher position, I consider it to be the best 2-d metroid.
Mortal Kombat for the SNES should appear, it's a really good fighting game, I consider it to be better than Street Fighter.
Pokémon leafgreen and firered are better than Diamond/Pearl.
The rest is kinda ok, there are still some things i didnt like about this list but my reply is long enough.
F-zeroGuy on 10 Apr '09
