Demographic situation
for January-February 2011

 

The population number in the Republic of Belarus as at 1 March 2011 was 9476,6 thousand persons, showing decline by 4,6 thousand as compared with the beginning of the current year. The decrease in the number of population is attributable to the excess of deaths over births by 6347, with positive migration gain of 1797 persons.

The number of children born in January through February 2011 was 16 627, which is 238 less than in the corresponding period of 2010, while the number of deaths was 22 974, or 529 fewer. The natural decline was thus equal to 6 347 persons.

In January through February 2011 as compared with January-February 2010, the number of registered marriages was up by 7,7%, while the number of divorces grew by 6,4%. In January-February 2011 there were 566 divorces per 1 000 marriages, while in January-February 2010 the number of divorces was 573 accordingly.

In January-February 2011 the numbers of in-migrants and out-migrants in the country were 2 788 and 991 persons respectively, with the migration gain thus equal to 1 797 persons.
