Maldives
On the island of Thulusdhoo, Maldives, Maldivians will wade into the water to form the image of traditional necklace with 350 in the center.

The necklace image has two-fold significance: a symbol of the culture they wish to preserve and a representation of the chain of islands that makes up their country—26 atolls and 1,190 islands in total in the Indian Ocean. This image will send a strong message to leaders gathering in Cancun for COP16 a few days later that the Maldives is extremely vulnerable to climate impacts, and that leaders must follow the lead of their own country – aiming for carbon neutrality by 2020 – and get to work with urgency on solutions that will lead the world back below 350 ppm CO2.
