Highway 69 Expanded Between Sudbury and Estaire

Governments Building Stronger Roads, Boosting The Northern Economy
Ontario created over 1,300 jobs and improved road safety by upgrading Highway 69 between Sudbury and Estaire, which officially opened today.
A 20-kilometre section of Highway 69 was widened from two to four lanes. This is the first stretch of four-laned highway to be completed on the Sudbury/Parry Sound corridor. Construction of this stretch of road began in 2005.
QUICK FACTS
- The Ontario government provided $183 million for construction on this section of Highway 69. The majority of the funding came from Ontario's Northern Highways Program.
- The federal government contributed $11.6 million under the Strategic Highways Infrastructure Program towards the construction of an interchange, the Wanup Road fly-over, as well as the realignment of two kilometres of this portion of Highway 69.
- The 2009 Ontario Budget committed $648 million to northern highway rehabilitation and expansion in 2009-10.
- Investments in Northern Ontario's highway infrastructure in 2009-10 will create an estimated 4,700 jobs.
