My New Personal Blog: Amanda's Musings

As mentioned previously there are a few changes happening here at Calico & Co. There are 3 major changes in works.

The first one being I am taking the plunge and transferring from the Blogger platform to the Wordpress platform. The blog has grown to the point where I am really feeling the limitations of Blogger, so it is time to move on.

The second big change is that I am changing the name of the blog from Calico & Co to Kaleidoscope. I feel this name encompasses my focus on the many facets of design in a more cohesive way. I love the new name and am excited about the new look the blog will have.

The third big change is that I have created a personal blog which has a separate identity from the design side of things. This personal blog is called Amanda's Musings and it is NOW LIVE!

Amanda's Musings is an insight into my life, my world and my creativity. It is the place where I will be sharing my new design work, snippets of my life, my Project 52 adventure and more goodies that are more personal in nature.

I would love to have you come and read along, bookmark it, oh and subscribe to the new feed so you don't miss a thing! I will be running a giveaway on the new blog soon, so make sure you keep an eye out over there for it!

The new Kaleidoscope blog is still in the set-up phase, but hopefully will be up and running soon!

Thanks for your patience everyone, the whole transition period didn't work out the way I planned and your friendship and blog loyalty is SO appreciated! You are the bestest bloggy friends ever!

Coming Soon...

[image via We Heart It original source unknown]

Hi everyone! I just wanted to drop in and say all is well, I am still alive and that I will be back on the blogging path soon!

My Blogging break has ended up being much longer than anticipated due to life circumstances, but that's ok, these things happen.

I will let you in on a secret though - Calico & Co will be changing - there will be a new name, a new location and a slightly different focus of content - more about design in general and really focusing on a select few facets of design - tapping in to my real passion.

OH! and I am starting up a personal blog too - about me and my thoughts - keeping the two separate will allow me more focus and freedom I think.

Soon I will reveal all the details so make sure you stick around!

Win the Opportunity to have your ideas Professionally Styled!

I am interrupting my blogging break to let you know about an amazing competition we are holding over at Portobello Bride!

We are asking you to create a Moodboard for an Autumn/Winter Wedding. Fill it with images of dresses, colours, themes, flowers, decorations and more that will create a gorgeous and unique mood and starting point for a wedding. The above example will give you an idea of what we are looking for. This can be done digitally [like above] or you can make a tactile version and then take a photo of it.

The winning moodboard, as chosen by the Portobello Bride team, will be the inspiration for a tablescape display that will progressively be created throughout the two days of the market. This display will be put together by the amazing Rachael Hart and Glen Proebstel of Prop.d a leading prop hire and styling company. Glen is also the Style Director of Inside Out magazine and contributes to other editorial publications such as Country Style, Gourmet Traveller, Elle Decoration UK, Living Etc UK and many more. The display will also feature items and products from the Portobello Bride Market Stallholders and will be full of unique ideas and clever tricks from which Brides can draw their own inspiration. This competition is open to anyone - worldwide. Imagine having your ideas interpreted by such amazing styling talent!

This will be done progressively throughout the event [March 26 and 27]. The winning moodboard will be featured on the Portobello Bride Blog along with images of the final, professionally styled display that it inspired.

A Blogging Break

I am at a point in my life where there are a million things to think about and just as many decision to be made in order for me to move forward in many areas of my life. Things have just been so crazy and so busy for such a long time that many of these decisions and plans have been put off in the struggle to try and get the ever increasing to-do list done!

So, I have decided to take some time out from Calico & Co, press the pause button, so to speak, and get some things sorted in my head, some things planned and maybe even a little time to refresh a little, which I so feel I need.

I don't know how long specifically I will be pausing for. At this point I am planning for about a week, but it could be longer. I will definitely be back though, in fact I already have some big plans [and some pretty big changes] on the way for Calico & Co.
As part of this big decision-making, plan-planning period in my life I have made the decision to step back from my role as Founder and driver of Creative Collective. It was a very tough decision, but now it has been made I am sure it is the right decision for me. Angie from Gnomeangel and Tamara from One Craftee Mumma will be the driving force behind CC now, along with the other Founding Members. I know these ladies have great plans and the group is going to continue to offer amazing projects each month to encourage you to create and connect!

Even though I will miss the blog in the time I am taking away from it, I know what will result is a good a positive thing. So be happy, and get excited cause great things are not only coming my way, but they will overflow on to you, my precious readers, too!

Graphics Love: Branding - Evian by Issey Miyake

One of my favourite things about Graphic Design is branding. It is exciting for me to see how businesses choose to brand themselves and their products.

I especially love it when companies enlist the help of designers and creative people outside of the world of graphic design to help them create something unique and special for their products and this is exactly what has resulted from a partnership between Evian and Fashion Designer Issey Miyake.

How gorgeous are these simple, colourful, happy and chic flowers on the Special Edition Evian bottles? I don't know if you can see but the shape of the bottle is actually the shape used for some of the elements of the flower such as the petals - THAT is good product repetition which leads to the customer's recognition of the product!

Issey Miyake is a wonderful fashion designer, and it seems now, he has achieved beautiful package design also.

Here's a little movie from the Evian site that is quite sweet:

Now to find a bottle to buy and keep!
