Andrei Sannikau has new lawyer
As charter97.org website was informed by Alla
Sannikava, she managed to find a lawyer who agreed to defend the presidential
candidate. The previous lawyer of Andrei Sannikau, Pavel Sapelka, had been
deprived of advocatory license. Now the political prisoner is to be defended by
the lawyer Maryna Kavaleuskaya from the legal advice bureau of the Frunzenski
district of Minsk.
Alla Sannikava has also received a letter of support and solidarity from Wilfried Martens, President of the European People's Party (EPP) and a former prime-minister of Belgium.
“In this time of trouble the President of the EPP expresses his solidarity in connection with my son’s imprisonment. He writes that on 19 December Lukashenka showed that he is the last dictator of Europe. That is why my Andrei – an influential person in Belarus, who dared to run for presidency – was imprisoned. Wilfried Martens writes that in this time of trouble the European People's Party is with us, they are ready to help is and would monitor the situation in Belarus closely. They believe that one day the people of Belarus who are fighting for freedom and their rights, will win,” Alla Sannikava said.
