Cisco 12000
The Cisco 12000, also known as a Gigabit Switch Router or GSR, is a series of large network routers designed and manufactured by Cisco Systems. It is marketed primarily to large service providers, as well as for use in some enterprise networks. The routers are made with a variety of chassis sizes and types, all of which share compatible card interfaces.
Routers in this series are designed to provide IP and MPLS services. To maximize availability for service providers, the feature set includes redundant power supplies, standby route processors, resilient fabric, and alarm modules.
GSR line cards are available for Asynchronous Transfer Mode, Frame Relay, Packet over Sonet (POS), and Gigabit Ethernet protocols.
The routers were also colloquially called BFR (Big Fast Router). The initial models GSR 12016 and GSR 12008 were named after mountains in Yosemite Valley: El Capitan (probably due to its impressive appearance) and Half Dome (having half the size and capacity of the GSR 12016)
