Two of the biggest game regulars in Gus Hansen and Tom Dwan sat down and battled in a high stakes Pot Limit Omaha game. The action took place over three separate tables of $300/$600 action. The first notable hand came when Gus Hansen made a bet of over $7,000 on the river. After thinking for a minute, Dwan folded the hand and surrendered the pot.
Hansen kept up his well known aggressive style in this next hand, betting $11,400 on the river. Once again, Dwan folded after thinking for a moment.
Although the same thing happened in this next hand, not many were surprised. Hansen made Dwan lay his hand down with another river bet.
Tides slightly turned in the following hand. Dwan turned Hansen’s style against him and led with a $7,200 bet on the turn, forcing Hansen to fold.
The next pot was one of the largest you will see online. All the money got in on the flop, creating a total pot worth more than $200,000. When it was ran twice, it ended up being a split pot. The anti-climactic ending did not deter the rail, as talk of the massive hand ran rampant for quite a while.
Another huge pot took place only minutes later. Once again, getting it in on the flop meant wunning it twice, and an eventual split. Hansen had the better with top set of eights vs. Dwan’s middle set of sevens. Dwan, however, made a straight on the second round, and saving him over $100,000.
On another table, Hansen got all his money in on the flop against Dwan. Hansen had flopped top set against Tom Dwan’s flush draw. Dwan hit a diamond on both runs and took the total pot of $50,000.
Rarely do you see pocket kings hold up in big heads up pot limit hold’em pots, but they did exactly that in this hand. Hansen’s kings held and he took this pot.
Dwan finally showed an adjustment to Hansen’s game here, when he raised Hansen’s turn bet to over $30,000. Hansen timed down before laying down his hand.
In the final hand of the session, Gus Hansen doubled up by hitting a set in two different runs. First it was a six on the turn, followed by a deuce, giving the pot to The Great Dane.
All in all, the two players played for a lengthy amount of time, to no one’s surprise. When all was said and done, however, Hansen was up just a slight amount over the three tables, around $50,000. Dwan, as we know too well, will have to live to fight another day.
