Tom Dwan VS Gus Hansen High Stakes Action

Durrrr VS Gus Hansen Heads Up Poker

Two of the biggest game regulars in Gus Hansen and Tom Dwan sat down and battled in a high stakes Pot Limit Omaha game. The action took place over three separate tables of $300/$600 action. The first notable hand came when Gus Hansen made a bet of over $7,000 on the river. After thinking for a minute, Dwan folded the hand and surrendered the pot.

HU1

Hansen kept up his well known aggressive style in this next hand, betting $11,400 on the river. Once again, Dwan folded after thinking for a moment.

HU2

Although the same thing happened in this next hand, not many were surprised. Hansen made Dwan lay his hand down with another river bet.

HU3

Tides slightly turned in the following hand. Dwan turned Hansen’s style against him and led with a $7,200 bet on the turn, forcing Hansen to fold.

HU4

The next pot was one of the largest you will see online. All the money got in on the flop, creating a total pot worth more than $200,000. When it was ran twice, it ended up being a split pot. The anti-climactic ending did not deter the rail, as talk of the massive hand ran rampant for quite a while.

HU5

Another huge pot took place only minutes later. Once again, getting it in on the flop meant wunning it twice, and an eventual split. Hansen had the better with top set of eights vs. Dwan’s middle set of sevens. Dwan, however, made a straight on the second round, and saving him over $100,000.

HU6

On another table, Hansen got all his money in on the flop against Dwan. Hansen had flopped top set against Tom Dwan’s flush draw. Dwan hit a diamond on both runs and took the total pot of $50,000.

HU7

Rarely do you see pocket kings hold up in big heads up pot limit hold’em pots, but they did exactly that in this hand. Hansen’s kings held and he took this pot.

HU8

Dwan finally showed an adjustment to Hansen’s game here, when he raised Hansen’s turn bet to over $30,000. Hansen timed down before laying down his hand.

HU9

In the final hand of the session, Gus Hansen doubled up by hitting a set in two different runs. First it was a six on the turn, followed by a deuce, giving the pot to The Great Dane.

HU10

All in all, the two players played for a lengthy amount of time, to no one’s surprise. When all was said and done, however, Hansen was up just a slight amount over the three tables, around $50,000. Dwan, as we know too well, will have to live to fight another day.

Durrrr discusses Macau Cash Games

Durrrr discusses Macau Cash Games

A lot of focus and discussion has centered on the high stakes poker games in Macau in recent days. In that discussion, many have speculated on a win that totaled more than 11 million dollars. Finally, after being tracked down for a very short interview, Tom Dwan has answered questions regarding the cash game in Macau, China.

Without revealing specific numbers, Durrrr takes the time to confirm that the biggest cash game he’s competed in, to date, is in Macau. He clearly indicates that his largest single hand win also occurred at the tables in Macau. This means at least one hand gave Tom Dwan more than 1.2 million dollars. He won that pot competing against Phil Ivey in the Million Dollar Cash game. He did say that the largest live win he took in was not 11 million dollars. He also confirms that he lost significant amounts in the same competitive cash game.

Something to keep in mind: The conversion between Hong Kong Dollars and United States Dollars is drastically different. What would equal 11 million HKD is far more than it amounts to in USD, thus, if Tom Dwan won 11 million HKD it would only equal 1.4 USD. The short video clip was posted on Tom Dwan’s facebook profile March 9th.

It was announced a while ago that the next official challenger to Tom Dwan screen name durrrr in the Tom Dwan Million Dollar Challenge would be Dan Cates screen name JungleMan12. After a bit of speculation and hype by poker sites all over the world, the official start to the 2nd installment of the Million Dollar Challenge began early Friday morning on Full Tilt Poker.

As most everyone knows already, in order to take part in the Million Dollar Challenge, someone must put up $500,000 as a prop bet and then play durrrr in 50,000 hands of heads-up poker. Players must play four heads-up session at a time and must risk their own money. At the start of the session, a player must pick either PL Omaha or NL Holdem as their game, and that is the game that will take place throughout the challenge. At the end of 50,000 hands, if Dwan is ahead, he takes the players $500,000 in addition to the money won during the challenge. If the challenger wins, not only do they get the money won while playing, but they receive $500,000 from Dwan, plus an additional $1 Million bonus.

In this edition of the Million Dollar Challenge, the game of choice is No Limit Holdem. As you may recall, Patrik Antonius chose PL Omaha. Phil Ivey is the holder of the $500,000 from each player. Also, there are a couple of rules added onto this challenge. First, players need to add on if their stack is below 75 big blinds and can get up anytime effective stacks are greater than 250 big blinds. Also, all-ins will be ran twice in order to cut down on variance. In addition, the players agreed that they can play as many as six tables at once.

The first session between these two players began at 12:35 a.m. EDT Friday Morning and the first session between the two lasted about 2 and a half hours. At the end of the session, the players logged in 1,651 hands and Dwan emerged ahead $129,888. A two hour break then ensued and Dwan returned around 5:15 a.m. to start session two.

The second session lasted around seven hours and during that time Cates went on a massive heater. He rebounded from his $129k loss to pull even before going ahead about $150,000. Then, during the last hour of play, he ran a massive heater to pull ahead a total of $518,191 after 5,829 total hands played.

After one night, Dwan and Cates have over 11% of the challenge completed. It took Dwan and Antonius over a month to pull this off in their challenge. At the rate this challenge is going, we might be done by September. We had no clue when Antonius will finish his challenge.

Many give Cates a big advantage over Dwan in this one. According to PokerTableRatings, Dwan has lost more than $1.4 Million lifetime to Cates going into this challenge. So far, Cates has continued to dominate Dwan. Can he continue his domination? Stay tuned as we bring you more from the Million Dollar Challenge.
