An Editorial published today in the Orange County Register, is specifically calling for two of their six House members (Loretta Sanchez and Ed Royce) to join their other four representatives in cosponsoring H.R. 459, the Federal Reserve Transparency Act, that would finally bring about a full and thorough audit of the Federal Reserve System.
Additionally, writing over at Huffington Post, Rick Sanchez has a surprising column today calling for a full audit of the Federal Reserve. In it, he praises Glenn Beck for publicly taking the Fed to task and says:
...we should give credit where credit is due: Representative Ron Paul has been beating this drum for years. It's good that some are finally starting to listen.
Recently on Beck's show, Paul said, "People now are looking at the Fed as the culprit rather than the savior, and rightfully so." He's right.
Skepticism is healthy. Americans are tired of being kept in the dark. We refuse to be left out of the conversation any longer.
What we need are real answers. What we need is transparency and honesty.
What we need is an audit of the Fed -- an independent audit by Congress with public hearings -- so we, the American people who are footing the bill and paying the price, can decide how to reform the Fed and save our country.
Keep up the pressure folks. Americans are finally waking up to the actions of the Federal Reserve, turn up the heat by contacting your representative and senators today and urge them to cosponsor H.R. 459 and S. 202!

In his latest update, Senator Paul reaffirms his opposition to increasing the debt ceiling and makes the case for a Balanced Budget Amendment to the Constitution. This amendment would force Congress to balance their budget just as many states are required to do and families across America have to.
The Obama administration has floated a transportation authorization bill that would require the study and implementation of a plan to tax automobile drivers based on how many miles they drive.
The plan is a part of the administration's Transportation Opportunities Act, anundated draft of which was obtained this week by Transportation Weekly.
The White House, however, said the bill is only an early draft that was not formally circulated within the administration.
It goes on:
The proposal seems to follow up on that idea in section 2218 of the draft bill. That section would create, within the Federal Highway Administration, a Surface Transportation Revenue Alternatives Office. It would be tasked with creating a "study framework that defines the functionality of a mileage-based user fee system and other systems."
...The draft bill says the "study framework" for the project and a public awareness communications plan should be established within two years of creating the office, and that field tests should begin within four years.
This idea even has people on the left upset albeit for some different reasons.
Maybe an Amish horse-and-buggy isn't all that bad.

Lewis Lehrman, former Reagan Monetary Policy Advisor explains to Judge Napolitano how returning to the gold standard is the only way to implement fiscal discipline on our federal government.
At the end, the Judge asks what the chances are of the US returning to the gold standard. Lewis Lehrman declared, "Judge, I'm in it to win it." Are you?
In the wake of disgusting FDA tactics against Amish farmer Dan Allgyer, a defense fund has been set up for him and the private buying club with which he is associated. I can personally vouche for its legitimacy.
The buying club Grassfed On The Hill (customers of Dan Allgyer more details on us at www.grassfedonthehill.com) have setup this donation page. The money raised will go towards legal fees for our consumer lawsuit against the FDA, challenging their juristiction on ALL private clubs providing raw dairy. In addition, we could have other expenses as we raise awareness for this cause (such as our rally sound system equipment!). Full disclosure of how money is spent will be on our website www.grassfedonthehill.com, we believe in transparency!
Also, for those in the Washington D.C. area, the Rally for Food and Farm Freedom will take place Monday, May 16th, from 10am-1pm. More details can be found on their Facebook event page. Be sure to attend if you can!

On Wednesday, Congressman Paul spoke on the House floor regarding the death of Osama bin Laden, marque and reprisal, and the greater security offered by enacting a constitutional foreign policy.
After the death of Osama bin Laden, we're continuing to hear the old Bush administration mantra of "Americans are safer, but not yet safe." Now, security experts are suggesting checkpoints may be necessary outside of "soft" targets - your churches, schools, shopping centers, etc.
Security consultant David Boehm said the future could include security check points entering all soft targets - like your local department store. Boehm said even with a police presence, the areas are vulnerable.
"The reason they're called ‘soft' is because it's so easily accessible to anyone. There has to be security checks for the safety of all people," Broehm said.
The article wraps up by stating: "It's freedom, coming with an increasingly heavy price."
Really?
Turning America into a police state, while theoretically giving the appearance of "safety" (and certainly there would be more arrests to justify the continued police presence), is in reality turning our backs on what made America great.
With living in a free and open society, sometimes comes risk. I for one am not willing to surrender my freedom and liberty to live in a "security bubble."

The food stamp program ballooned during the recession as workers lost their jobs or saw their hours and income reduced. The rise in recipients has begun to flatten in recent months, which may mean that as the economy is improving fewer Americans are seeking to join the program. Enrollment in the program is still high though, with 11.6% more people tapping benefits in February than the same month a year earlier.
Food stamp numbers aren’t seasonally adjusted though, meaning a variety of factors could influence the monthly tallies and the program could grow again in coming months.
Mississippi and Oregon were among the states with the largest share of the population utilizing food stamps in February: At least one in five residents in each state were receiving benefits.
Wyoming had the lowest rate of recipients with just 6.6% of the state’s residents using food stamps.
You can view their interactive map of the states to see enrollment data here.
Barry Ritholtz sees this data and on his blog concludes:
To those of you who irrationally fear the US is turning into a Socialist state, I say unto thee:YOU ARE TOO LATE! We’ve already turned into a red nation of commies!
...Most Americans seem not to want to admit it, but we have fairly Socialist, rather Christian tendencies as a country. You know, things like charity, feeding the poor, broad government assistance to reduce senior and childhood poverty, etc.
...When you ask Americans if they support these social programs in the abstract, a high percentage will oppose them. But as you get more specific — “Do you support feeding families/children who are on the edge of starvation”– suddenly, we become downright European.
