Wot I Think – Capsized

By Quintin Smith on May 5th, 2011.

Look at that steely face under the helmet! Who's the real monster here?

Alien Trap are a Candian indie dev from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. I know! You like them already, right? Well, here’s an even better reason to like them- their debut commercial game, Capsized, is far too beautiful for the likes of you and me. Could any game live up to those visuals? Well, this one does. And how.

Wot I Think: Darkspore

By Jim Rossignol on May 2nd, 2011.

A strange beast shambles this way: Darkspore! ‘Tis the progeny of Maxis, sim-creators, and it is… an action RPG? A bold genetic strangeness, then – but is it a virile cross-breed or an inbred abomination? Let me take some time you tell you wot I think.

Wot I Think – Cargo!

By Quintin Smith on April 27th, 2011.

What, you've never seen a floating potato take a leak before?

Russian developers Ice-Pick Lodge are an inspiration of mine. Operating out of a two bedroom Moscow apartment, their small team assembled Pathologic, one of my favourite games of all time, and monstrous afterlife-simulator The Void, which was among the most interesting games of 2008.

Both of these games were legendarily bleak. Last week Ice-Pick released Cargo! – The Quest For Gravity, and it’s eye-popping colour alone makes it unlike anything they’ve ever done. But precisely what kind of game is it? And is it worth buying? These were tough answers to acquire, but you’ll find them both after the jump.

Wot I Think: Sanctum

By Quintin Smith on April 20th, 2011.

The monsters! They’re... full of numbers!

Last week I played tower defense FPS Sanctum and posted some impressions. Since then I’ve played a bit more. And some more. And a little more still. I may even have missed a meal somewhere along the line. If you’re a fan of tower defense, having fun or missing meals, you should probably buy this game.

Wot I Think: Portal 2

By John Walker on April 19th, 2011.

It's finally here!

Portal 2 has now unlocked. If you’ve preloaded it, you should be able to start the unlocking process now. I played the game all the way through last week, both single-player and co-op, and am very pleased to tell you, without a single spoiler, Wot I Think.

Wot I Think: DCS A-10C Warthog

By Tim Stone on April 10th, 2011.

Eagle Dynamics, I doff my hat-switch to you. DCS: A-10C is remarkable. My hard drive has never hangared a more thoroughly modelled facsimile of a modern fixed-wing combat aircraft. I’ve never clambered into a virtual cockpit and seen fewer places in which a pilot might safely prop a beverage container or stick a satsuma sticker. I’ve certainly never encountered a sim that pleased so many of my peers yet left me so ratty and conflicted. Read the rest of this entry »

Wot I Think: Anomaly – Warzone Earth

By Jim Rossignol on April 8th, 2011.

Go into the light!
11 Bit Studios’ clever (and budget-priced) tower-defence-in-reverse game, Anomaly – Warzone Earth, is out today! The concept and presentation look neat, but is it a towering inferno, or a creepy cinder? What does that mean? I just don’t know. I’ve been up all night playing videogames. But that won’t let stop me telling you wot I think…

Wot I Think: Don’t Take It Personally…

By Alec Meer on April 6th, 2011.

Oh look, a face book

The next game from Christine Love, creator of remarkable 2010 adventure game Digital: A Love Story, was released a few days ago. It’s another adventure of sorts, but more specifically it’s a visual novel with heightened interactivity. Here’s how it made me feel.

I know next to nothing about visual novels, I don’t know anything about anime, I’m only passingly familiar with 4Chan, I’ve never been a high school teacher, I haven’t had to wrestle with coming out and I’ve never been seduced by someone half my age. Clearly, I am completely unqualified to write about Don’t Take It Personally, Babe, It Just Ain’t Your Story. Fortunately, the universality of its theme and its observations means I feel completely qualified anyway. I know what it is to feel like someone’s kicked me straight in the heart. For all the otaku trappings, that’s what Christine Love’s latest is really about.

Wot I Think: Lego Star Wars: The Clone Wars

By John Walker on March 26th, 2011.

Yes, I fancy them.

The latest Traveller’s Tales Lego game, Lego Star Wars 3: The Clone Wars, came out yesterday. I’ve played the Story Mode through to completion, and fought against replaying the entire thing in Free Play in order to have time to write this review. Is it any good? Well, I’ve sort of given that away. Yes, it’s extremely good. Here’s Wot I Think to prove why.

Wot I Think: Crysis 2

By Jim Rossignol on March 26th, 2011.

Share ·

Some kind of metaphor.
Crysis 2 is now available in both Europe and North America. The sequel to the Crytek’s PC-only 2007 technology showcase FPS, Crysis, it’s one of the most intensely anticipated games of 2011. And it’s now multi-platform, too. What does that all mean for us?

Well, it’s a given that many computer dudes will get shot, but just how good is the shooting? And should this sparkling sci-fi spectacle be sat at the top of your shopping list? (Probably.) Here’s Wot I Think.

Wot I Think: Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime

By Alec Meer on March 24th, 2011.

Share ·

It's your favourite Ghostbusters characters that you've never heard of!

This top-down arcade shooter came out earlier this week, and is available to buy for a relatively budget price on assorted download services now. Should you cross its stream, or aim for its flat-top? I don’t even know what that means, but look at me, I’m saying lines from a film you’ve seen! That means you will love me. Guh.

Here’s my verdict on Sanctum of Slime. I played it so you didn’t have to.
