Start season on Friday night against Destroyers

The two-time defending Southeast Division regular season champions kick off their 2011 Premier Development League campaign with a home contest on Friday as the Mississippi Brilla FC host the FC Jax Destroyers at 7 p.m. at Harper Davis Stadium on the campus of Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. Mississippi has lost only one regular season match in the last two seasons, and has only dropped one home contest during the regular season over its four year of existence in the PDL.

Pumas Rally To Beat Highlanders

There were some tense moments for the Kitsap Pumas, but they ultimately broke through thanks to some impact substitutes that contributed to a 2-1 win against the Victoria Highlanders on Sunday at Bremerton Memorial Stadium. Pumas central midfielder Matt Friesen connected on a penalty in the 80th minute and Cameron Hepple scored the game-winner in the 86th minute. Head coach Pete Fewing gave credit to subs Warlen Silva, David Gray and Elliott Fauske for making things happen.

Highlanders Shock Timbers U23s

The Victoria Highlanders started their 2011 campaign with a bang, shocking the reigning PDL champion Portland Timbers U23s and ending their 20-game undefeated streak as Elliot Mitrou stopped two penalty kicks, one in stoppage time, to preserve a 1-0 road win for the Highlanders at Jeld-Wen field on Saturday afternoon. Jared Stephens scored the only goal of the game in the 54th minute as he fired home from the top of the penalty area.

Piranhas Take Opening Victory

The scene was set for a successful start to the 2011 PDL season on a cool Saturday night at the Virginia Beach Sportsplex, and the Virginia Beach Piranhas got the job done, beating the Fredericksburg Hotspur 2-0. Amir Shihata gave the Piranhas the lead from the penalty spot in the in the first half before Marcello Alves, pictured, added a second in the 73rd minute to wrap up the three points for Virginia Beach.

Heat Romp To Opening Victory

The Laredo Heat wasted no time in washing the taste of last year’s first round playoff exit from their mouths when as it took a 5-1 victory against the Rio Grande Valley Grandes FC Friday night in its USL Premier Development League season opener at the Texas A&M International Soccer Complex on Saturday night. The Heat opened the contest with a breakaway goal from Damian Lopez in the third minute of the night and ran away with the contest from there, with Reynol Fuentes and Esteban Bayona each adding goals before halftime.

Sanner's Hat Trick Boosts Reading

Reading United forward Matt Sanner netted a hat trick to lift his side to a convincing 3-1 victory against the Brooklyn Knights on Saturday night at the Metropolitan Oval. “It was a great way to get the season started. We were able to establish ourselves early in the match, which gave us a great deal of confidence going forward,” said head coach Brendan Burke.
