EPA will no longer conduct radiation monitoring related to Fukushima — Results have not been updated for almost a week

Daily Data Summary, EPA’s Japanese Nuclear Emergency: Radiation Monitoring, May 03, 2011 at 3:24 pm EDT:

Due to the consistent decrease in radiation levels across the country associated with the Japanese nuclear incident, EPA will update the daily data summary page only when new data are posted. Historical daily data summaries will continue to be accessible from this webpage.

After a thorough data review showing declining radiation levels related to the Japanese nuclear incident, EPA has returned to the routine RadNet sampling and analysis process for precipitation, drinking water and milk. [...]

We have to rely on generous independent testing’s again?

The head of EPA, Lisa Jackson, made TIME magazine’s 100 list for 2011:

we will continue to keep the american people updated..so said barry hawaii 5 obama..

people in america if you are going to put up with this epa shit and prefer going out into the street screaming we got bin laden then that is your choice.
the lovely people at fairewinds associates have stated you should start contacting government at local and national level..
    and demand proper monitoring.

what i find interesting is chernobyl happened under a so called evil communist dictatorship.
men that murdered and oppressed people.
yet look at the swift response to the crisis from the russian central government.
look at the removal of people from surrounding towns..the use of 100s of thousands of people was to do with keeping levels of radiation exposure within acceptable limits..people working for 3 minutes only etc.
what we have in the world is either silence or in japan just adding zeros onto radiation limits.

    • Noah

      If you don’t succeed

The Russian knew that if they did not succeed to quench Chernobyl it would mark the end of their future.

The present uninhabited state of Bikini Atoll is mute testimony to the power of bio-accumulation within the environment and subsequently in the islands food chain. After a test re-population over 8 years, the islanders had to be re-evacuation due to severe and numerous birth defects among their offspring.

Japan and other nations downwind of Fukushima are gradually reaching the level of contamination that made Bikini uninhabitable. Uninhabitable not in terms of external ambient background radiation, but in terms of the dangers of ingestable internal emitters existing in the food chain.

    • Poor Daddy

I also find it interesting that RT, a Russian TV network, has been telling the truth as they see it about Fukushima, unlike our “free world” media that tell us what the corporations tell them to tell us. Up is down. Google RT news……a breath of fresh, if irradiated air.

      • tony wilson

those damn old commie new capitalists..
spoiling a perfectly tight media blackout.
obama’s probably asking what is putin up to.

i here putin has never been a fan of
        david rockefeller and baron rothchild.
since nuke problems are good news for russian coal, oil and gas and also squeeze the biggest nuke player areva of france..

i do not care russia today nuclear news reports on you tube have been fantastic.
and shatter the lie that the us or uk news have anything to be proud of i now trust that channel more than the joke of the bbc.

Hi Tony, I think Pooty does what evr he’s told just like the rest of ‘em…remember comrade L got waxed in london with polonium? what didn’t get “overly” reported was the fact he was trying to alert the news media about so called terrorist attacks in Ru being the work of…….da gubmint.

Yes, RT rocks! It’s on YouTube and other alternative sites…
Friends in Western Europe tell me that they aren’t getting any more news than I am!–just CNN controlled stuff–mainly Libya and Osama war propaganda… I understand that the E.U. is totally complicit/wrapped up in the banking cartel/debt scandals as well.
Putin is scary, but it’s a different power structure than we’re facing–answering to a different boss with different rules, so you might get a fresh view! Russia has its own oil and resources. I do wonder how the former KGB ties in with the CIA at some levels…
On the whole, I’m trusting foreign media like BBC or Aljazeera more than I trust our own. :(

        • BetaMeta

Much more! I trust the average joes on the internet even more… Some sites are getting pretty funny about the latest Osama death tales–”It was Colonel Mustard, with the Navy Seals, in the bedroom!” ha,ha! ;)

          • xdrfox

CIA veteran doubts the bin Laden story
“If they didn’t have an Osama bin Laden out there, they’d have to invent one because he’s a terrific diversion for the world.”

This is what a former CIA official with on the ground experience in Afghanistan was saying about Osama bin Laden the day after 9/11.

            Other facts:

            1. Osama is not wanted in connection with 9/11 by the FBI or any other law enforcement agency

            2. Bush, Cheney and countless other government scumbags have stated that Osama bin Laden is not and was never “the issue.”

Yet, Bush-Bama is sending 30,000 troops to Afghanistan and the band plays on…

Flashback to some accidental truth from 2007
When Benazir Bhutto returned to Pakistan to take a stand for democratic government, 3 million Pakistanis greeted her at the airport.

Now she is dead. (The date: 27 December 2007.)

At the 6:15 mark in this video, Benazir Bhutto refers in a matter-of-fact manner to “the man who killed Osama bin Laden.”

If this was a misstatement, she did not correct herself, nor did the interviewer call attention to it.

I’m not up on what Hanford is getting into, but there have been several insiders who met an untimely end recently, just when these disasters were cranking up…..
For example, Christoper Story (Brit intelligence analyst) and Matt Simmons (oil industy expert)…
It’s interesting that Mr. Story indicated in 2009-10 that the “Powers that Be” resented Japan quite a bit. Japan was standing its ground on debt re-payment and expected financial integrity, even threatening to blow the covers on the Western corruption & missing funds-trillions!??…Mr. Story noted that Asians have an intense ethics system regarding debt, etc., which I buy…
This whole thing is playing out like a B-grade disaster movie or an A-grade spy flick…way out there..it’s hard to believe!! :(

          • xdrfox

“Japan was standing its ground on debt re-payment and expected financial integrity, even threatening to blow the covers on the Western corruption & missing funds-trillions!??…”

          • BetaMeta

            X-
There is a lot buried in his Archives, covering several international story lines…way out there…but with, I fear, the sharp ring, or thud in this case, of Truth in there…

            http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christopher_Story

            http://www.worldreports.org/news

It was chilling that Mr. Story warned readers that he faced death threats and then suddenly fell ill (some kind of liver poisoning). He was really in the thick of it to get information.

He came out on the BP/Gulf of Mexico disaster as an operation and focused on the massive fiscal/market corruption, which is still hitting now. I remember discussion of Japan entering the crossfire with a challenge to expose fraud, as described, above…It made Japan sound virtuous and the bad guys are all about taking revenge. ?? Didn’t Obama push removal of the last PM there?…. It’s noteworthy, to say the least.

Mean while by at the lab…

    “EGOR turn the equipment off.”

“Yes, Master!” “But Master how will we update the monitoring results?”

“EGOR, you dummy! We will update the findings when we get new data!”

“But Master, the equiptment is turnnned…”

“EGOR, you imbecile! Not another word! That is why I, I am the master and you are the EGOR!”

  • xdrfox

They have shut down because now they have a baseline of active daily accumulations and there projections can be made without the monitoring and save money !
They know how much of each Isotope is here and will be next week, next month, 6 months, 9 months a year.
Like the GOM, they can do nothing about it and just go back to the office, rather then put their people risk retrieving the inf.
Suck it up people, we are not going to get any inf. just like the GOM, just no news.
    I don’t like this re-run !

  • Lily

If someone can do a form letter to increase monitoring for people to send to our government officials I will try to help get it out there.

“Due to the consistent decrease in radiation levels across the country associated with the Japanese nuclear incident…”

    Um, EXCUSE ME?!?!?

It just came out in the news yesterday that the RADIATION RATES ARE THE HIGHEST THEY’VE EVER BEEN SINCE THE START OF THE DISASTER.

    http://www.wsws.org/articles/2011/may2011/fuku-m02.shtml

I’m actually going to start posting this all over the internet. And I’m directly contacting the EPA about this as well.

PLEASE spread the word as much as possible that the radiation levels are not only not going down, but are spiking to their highest levels yet. And I’m also urging everyone to contact the EPA as well. If nothing else, they should be aware that we know about their lies and are making every effort to expose them.

Call and complain about this policy and refusal to test fish, food chain, water, soil, milk, breast milk, air and precipitation during the largest global nuclear event in history (1,900 tons) that is depositing and accumulating. Tell them it’s not acceptable to abdicate this responsibility and if they choose to – then they may step down for someone who will, or refund taxpayer investments so we may obtain the data we require:
    http://www.epa.gov/epahome/hotline.htm

Email them the CERRIE findings and ask them to get their heads around current science and precaution principle for fallout as they do with Four Loko and hair dye.
    http://nuclearhistory.wordpress.com/2011/04/25/committee-examining-radiation-risks-of-internal-emitters-cerrie-2001-2004/

If they still insist on abdicating their responsibilities in governance after requesting this explicitly… Then, we organize and sue.

Most of the population is under control with the NSM.
New line up programing for the spring TV, Summer coming and they want them to BUY BUY BUY, it’s a game of odds and how long.
Many are too apathetic to give a sh*t !
Many have no concern if they hear a blip about, it’s another world away, I’m invisible, It’s not about me !
About the time many find happiness and settle into it with the ones they love around them or in them, the horror will begin, with increased replications near and far, more so then passed, for so much more then ever could imagine, 1700 tons and some that increase it’s payload !
There will be the ones that are loved despite handicaps after birth, but because of the taxed systems, mercy killing for babes and shock and horror of mothers screams will be the norm !

    • xdrfox

There was a Time I could speak with Representatives and I would spend hours with their people helping to frame laws for the good and safety of all.
They would listen to my ideas, and in a year or two would become laws to benefit us all and we could sleep better at night because we did what needed to be done to stop or prevent things that should not be !
There are still some there, but so silent now !

  • Novamind

What! No more Late, Inaccurate, Unrealistic Intel With Periods of Days of No Data from the EPA? No Big Deal!

  • Cuica

We have to start taking matters into our own hands. We have to set up a monitoring system that gives accurate data and publish it, along with testing food and water for different radioactive particles. We are beating a dead horse, trying to get the EPA to move, they aren’t gonna do it! We have to organize and move forward. There are plenty of universities that have the equiptment to test for radiation…what are we waiting for?

    • WindorSolarPlease

The people who are experienced in this and who have the sensitive equipment, I’m sure are testing things on their own.

Hopefully they will give a very loud yell and data to warn the people.

These equipments are expensive and not easily found for sale, like they used to be.

It amazes me that we can’t get the things that we use to. Most things are out of stock, and they have not replenished their stock??

    • The Hanford List

The system is monitoring you at the moment. Check out that car…

  • WindorSolarPlease

This is not the time to stop the data.

Instead, the data should be rolling in, also with things that haven’t been tested for, and all made public.

With overseers to make sure everything is on the up and up.

  • radegan

If the data showed nothing they would proudly keep it going. Remember at the very worst possible moment – how many stations were ‘down’ for maintenance or repair?

  • Cuica

Ok so now we know we can not count on the EPA, lets go to plan B…which is….we are intelligent and creative, lets put our minds together…even if we don’t carry out these ideas, lets just imagine what we as population enenews would/could do to save ourselves.

  • Anthony

This EPA story is in direct conflict with this Fairewinds video update I believe published today!

Where is all that Fukushima radiation going, and why does it matter?

    http://www.fairewinds.com/updates

  • xdrfox

I they are allowing us to be the test !

  • MB

Don’t drink the tap water, or milk, watch what you eat, wear gloves when gardening, take off your shoes and jacket when you walk in the door. Dust often., vacuum….that’s hard, did anyone say to do that? I think add that to the list. Act as if it is bad and that is the best you can do. If it is not bad then you have only done the little bit you can do in any case but it may make a difference. We may never know the level of contamination you know. I like Arnie.

      Natural protection against radiation
      on May 4, 2011
In the midst of ongoing concerns about radiation exposure from the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan, scientists are reporting that a substance similar to resveratrol — an antioxidant found in red wine, grapes and nuts — could protect against radiation sickness. The report appears in ACS Medicinal Chemistry Letters.

Michael Epperly, Kazunori Koide and colleagues explain…
      http://scienceblog.com/45034/natural-protection-against-radiation/

  • Very, very worried

You know, I have HAD it, like so many others on this site. The EPA works FOR US. We pay their bills and their salaries. If they are not doing the job that they should be doing…

Anyway, I think that it may very well come down to doing our own testing. And why not? Can Fairewinds recommend independent labs in various regions of the country?

    • splashy

The Republicans are doing their best to defund the EPA as we comment here. Tell the Republicans you don’t want the EPA defunded, along with any other agencies that would be doing the testing.

  • xdrfox

The only thing I can see good in this is the fact that so many good and wonderful heartfelt people have come forth on this site !

  • Very, very worried

Now, while I am not saying that this is the most scientifically unimpeachable way to do things-no “chain of command,” and so on. I think that the fastest and easiest way to do this is to have an online website for each state. This website would list appropriate labs or research facilities, along with their protocols for providing samples. Individuals would follow those protocols in packing up samples of water, local soil, locally grown food, and so on to be analyzed at the selected lab. The individual would privately pay for their own testing. Once the test results were in, the client could agree to have the lab post the results on the geographically appropriate website, along with all lab notes. The results would be posted in categories (water, soil, etc.)with only reasonable geographic identifying info, so privacy would be protected–eg. “strawberries grown in Santa Maria, CA.” Over time, with enough results posted, we’d have a pretty good idea of what’s out there-and where. Any feedback on this idea????

    • xdrfox

      My Darling Young One,
How long during this do you think the internet will be running ?

Our Gov. leaders praise the use of the Internet and communications, of all types through the freedom uprising’s in the middle east of late….. So why do they have a kill switch for us ??

          • Deetu 3

I guess it’s in case we “kill them with the sword they came to kill us with” (old Japanese saying)

    • splashy

It will only work in places where people have money. In poor areas, there will be gaps.

The Republicans, especially the Tea Party group of Republicans, are doing their best to cut funding for all the agencies that could keep up on testing and regulating. They don’t care about people like us.

On the other hand, the Democrats are fighting to keep the funding levels up.

Remember that when you are voting.

      • radegan

Hey Splashy – you know that old saw about the GOP being your ‘Daddy’ and the Dems being your ‘Mommy’? Well, it’s true – except Mommy and Daddy are Bonnie and Clyde.

    • terraohio

Cleveland, Ohio’s milk was tested 3 times with no detects. How convenient! What about Cleveland’s precipitation and drinking water? The most recent drinking water tests for other Ohio cities detected .2 of I-131. I still don’t know if the tap water is safe to drink or use for coffee, tea, or cooking.
Is I-131 absorbed by your skin? What if you wash your hands a lot?

      • sassyiam

I-131 can burn your skin and eyes and if you’re deficient in iodine, your body will readily absorb it through the skin. Once it enters the body it will settle in your thyroid and soft tissues and then it will stay much longer than its outside the body half-life.

If you must use water you’re concerned about, you may want to consider adding 3T of baking soda to a large bowl for washing veggies and another for washing hands. It’s pretty effective in washing any nuclides away. Additionally, after washing, you can always peel them or use a brush.

Good luck getting the EPA to answer your emails, they haven’t mine.

There is one, and maybe two, other citizen run radiation sensor system (though just collecting air data, at least to start)– that might be the way to go, join with them and add the testing of food and water. Also, check with your local high school science teachers and college science teachers maybe?

Three groups that have possibilities are listed here, along with the radnet (governmental)… http://blogs.forbes.com/jeffmcmahon/2011/03/28/three-sites-where-you-can-monitor-u-s-radiation-levels/
