Even if the govt monitored the radiation, would you trust the data? It would be like asking BP to monitor the gulf oil spill. The govt is run by the same people they’re supposed to be overseeing. So it’s kinda like asking a guy who has a gun pointed at your head for help, because some guy has a gun pointed at your head.

What! No more Late, Inaccurate, Unrealistic Intel With Periods of Days of No Data from the EPA? No Big Deal!
We have to start taking matters into our own hands. We have to set up a monitoring system that gives accurate data and publish it, along with testing food and water for different radioactive particles. We are beating a dead horse, trying to get the EPA to move, they aren’t gonna do it! We have to organize and move forward. There are plenty of universities that have the equiptment to test for radiation…what are we waiting for?
The people who are experienced in this and who have the sensitive equipment, I’m sure are testing things on their own.
Hopefully they will give a very loud yell and data to warn the people.
These equipments are expensive and not easily found for sale, like they used to be.
It amazes me that we can’t get the things that we use to. Most things are out of stock, and they have not replenished their stock??

Don’t drink the tap water, or milk, watch what you eat, wear gloves when gardening, take off your shoes and jacket when you walk in the door. Dust often., vacuum….that’s hard, did anyone say to do that? I think add that to the list. Act as if it is bad and that is the best you can do. If it is not bad then you have only done the little bit you can do in any case but it may make a difference. We may never know the level of contamination you know. I like Arnie.

You know, I have HAD it, like so many others on this site. The EPA works FOR US. We pay their bills and their salaries. If they are not doing the job that they should be doing…
Anyway, I think that it may very well come down to doing our own testing. And why not? Can Fairewinds recommend independent labs in various regions of the country?

Now, while I am not saying that this is the most scientifically unimpeachable way to do things-no “chain of command,” and so on. I think that the fastest and easiest way to do this is to have an online website for each state. This website would list appropriate labs or research facilities, along with their protocols for providing samples. Individuals would follow those protocols in packing up samples of water, local soil, locally grown food, and so on to be analyzed at the selected lab. The individual would privately pay for their own testing. Once the test results were in, the client could agree to have the lab post the results on the geographically appropriate website, along with all lab notes. The results would be posted in categories (water, soil, etc.)with only reasonable geographic identifying info, so privacy would be protected–eg. “strawberries grown in Santa Maria, CA.” Over time, with enough results posted, we’d have a pretty good idea of what’s out there-and where. Any feedback on this idea????

The most recent drinking water tests for other Ohio cities detected .2 of I-131. I still don’t know if the tap water is safe to drink or use for coffee, tea, or cooking.
Is I-131 absorbed by your skin? What if you wash your hands a lot?
I-131 can burn your skin and eyes and if you’re deficient in iodine, your body will readily absorb it through the skin. Once it enters the body it will settle in your thyroid and soft tissues and then it will stay much longer than its outside the body half-life.
If you must use water you’re concerned about, you may want to consider adding 3T of baking soda to a large bowl for washing veggies and another for washing hands. It’s pretty effective in washing any nuclides away. Additionally, after washing, you can always peel them or use a brush.

Good luck getting the EPA to answer your emails, they haven’t mine.
There is one, and maybe two, other citizen run radiation sensor system (though just collecting air data, at least to start)– that might be the way to go, join with them and add the testing of food and water. Also, check with your local high school science teachers and college science teachers maybe?
