  • The Last Arcade by Jonathan Hall

Here is a short (and very sad) documentary clip that takes place inside the now closed China Town Fair arcade. This was clearly created by Jonathan Hall in order to make grown men cry.

Dude I know Jon, we were Army buddies and he got of the military about a month after I did. We were actually talking a few months ago about his journalism pursuits, and man this is an excellent video!

What a small world we live in.

I'm currently studying the Fighting Game Community for my masters degree in Brazil, surrounding videogames and cyber-sports.

Since I began to gather specific literature, and started to study deeper my future object of research, one word appeared several times on any interview, recording or even book I've read, and it was Chinatown Fair.

I've never been there, but seeing what happened to arcades here as well, I can say that I feel your pain about that historic place to play games.

      R.I.P.

I have a sock full of quarters I was supposed to use at CTF, but I kept putting off going because I figured I'd always have a chance.

      Foolish.

celebrate it by going to one of the arcades left with a $20.

      Well that's my plan anyways.

There's still hope out there. Here in Denver we have the 1Up, it's a bar/arcade downtown. They have old school machines like Tron, Burgertime, Ms. Pacman; there are a few skeeball machines, one of the walls is lined with Pinball machines, they have a Mortal Kombat and an MKII Cabinet, along with a Street Fighter Alpha 3 and EX2 cabinets, they even have human-sized Jenga sets. The bar is pretty legit, along with the drinks, they have this burger on the menu... instead of a bun, it's made on a donut.

I just went their yesterday for the StrikeFirstCO ranbat, shout outs to the Colorado scene. My point is, with places like the 1Up, there's still a small chance that the arcades can still be around, at least for a little while.

There used to be a barcade in Cleveland called PowerPlay. I used to go there as a kid and play SF3 and XvSF etc etc. Wish that place hadnt closed down. If there was anything like that near me now id be there every week.

You people with good arcades support what you have!

Same here man. First time I played House of the Dead, Virtua On, Power Stone, Marvel vs Capcom, and many other amazing games was at Power Play.

Show your local arcade some love, come off a few bucks once a week.

Next Level is awesome, but it's more of a tournament place than an arcade. It is oddly, filling in the gap that was left when ctf closed down at least for me anyway. I still miss the old fashion arcade tho and the 5 dumplings for $1. Next Level is kick-ass though.

Yo, there's this community called Console Combat that meets up at McCarthy's in the flats every Monday from 6 in the afternoon until like 2 in the morning. I'm not sure if you would consider it a barcade or not, and I haven't gone there myself, but it's there.
They have tournaments and stuff too, check em out.

Search around on here and you can certainly find some more information on it.
