The Reel Geezers, in their less interesting lives, are Producer Marcia Nasatir and Screenwriter Lorenzo Semple Jr., whose indieWIRE Blog Network movie commentary is based on nearly a century of combined experience in the film game.
Today, the Geezers look at a pair of Men, one Single and the other striving to be Serious. Both draw from the highly divergent personal backgrounds of the filmmakers, and what the Geezers discern with their rheumy but always laser-like eyes may be surprising.
The dynamic octogenarian duo who together have about 100 years of experience in the Biz give us a first class review of the latest Clooney pic. Watch the Geezers take a spin “Up In the Air.” Do they soar? Do they struggle off the runway? They would not be the Reel Geezers if their altimeters were entirely in synch!
The dynamic octogenarian duo who together have about 100 years of experience in the Biz review the film “Precious.” Some call it down-right depressing while others say its unbelievably uplifting—what do the good ole Geezers think? These two old-school movie veterans always have a fresh, funny and insightful perspective on the latest flicks.

In their first YouTube film review, for last year’s high-school hit "Superbad," octogenarian Hollywood vets Marcia Nasatir and Lorenzo Semple bicker about which dirty words are most offensive—and repeat them, over and over. http://www.newsweek.com/id/140486

By way of Juno (12/14, Fox Searchlight) director Jason Reitman, I came across this hilarious review of the film by an elderly couple who critique films on a YouTube series called "Reel Geezers." http://andthewinneris.blog.com/Reel%20Geezers/
Marcia’s Hollywood debut was as a literary agent, representing and selling the film rights to All The President’s Men and The Exorcist, as well as being the agent for such screenwriters as Robert (Chinatown) Towne and Lorenzo (Three Days of the Condor) Semple Jr.
At United Artists, Marcia became one of the first women ever named a major studio Vice-President. In that capacity, UA turned out a string of hits including Rocky, Coming Home and One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest ... all multiple Oscar winners.
After leaving UA, Marcia brought to the screen and Executive Produced a cult-classic, The Big Chill (after persuading Columbia Pictures to green-light a script which had been rejected 17 times). She produced Ironweed, starring Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep, and is especially proud of producing Hamburger Hill, the highly respected Vietnam War film.
Later, as Executive Vice President of Phoenix Pictures Marcia supervised the development of Oliver Stone’s U-Turn and Terrence Malik’s highly acclaimed Thin Red Line. For all those, among other film credits, she was honored with Women in Film’s annual Crystal Award for Lifetime Achievement. Her most recent film is Death Defying Acts and stars Catherine Zeta-Jones and Guy Pearce. She is eager to make one more film and has a script in development.
Lorenzo Semple Jr.
Lorenzo began his writing career long ago in the then-flourishing field of popular magazine short stories. He went on to write two plays produced on Broadway one of which was filmed as The Honeymoon Machine, starring Steve McQueen.
Hollywood and episodic television drama came next. Then came Batman. Lorenzo was living in Spain, trying to write another play, when ABC and William Dozier tapped him to develop and write a TV pilot based on the famed comic book. The television series, starring Adam West, was a legendary success, and Lorenzo never looked back.
He co-wrote or wrote a number of movies with leading roles played by many of the most luminous male stars of the era: Robert Redford (Three Days of the Condor); Paul Newman (The Drowning Pool); Warren Beatty (The Parallax View); Steve McQueen and Dustin Hoffman (Papillon); Sean Connery (Never Say Never Again). Along the way, Lorenzo also wrote a couple of cult-favorite films, Pretty Poison and Flash Gordon. His screenplay for the former received the New York Film Critics Award as the best of its year.
He is currently, at the age of 85, collaborating on an original romantic comedy for which he has considerable, if guarded, hope.
Heather Finnegan
Wishing to share her friends with the world, Heather Finnegan unleashed her technical expertise to bring Reel Geezers to the Internet. She spends a lot of QT with the older pair, hanging out, shooting and editing their tapes. In order to keep up with the RG’s she is constantly on Wikipedia and IMDB.
Heather is a freelance producer, once an intern at Marcia’s production company. She works in cable and network television and has traveled around the world working on documentary projects, long and short format. She is confident that one day, when she is older, she will have the material for a more extensive bio.
