Rally, Summit in D.C. to examine “Citizens United,” year one

Various organizations plan events in 38 states, more being added daily

WASHINGTON D.C.  Jan. 18, 2011 —  A number of national and local organizations will launch events in 38 states starting Friday Jan. 21 to mark the one year anniversary of the Supreme Court’s “Citizens United v. FEC” decision, which overturned limits on corporate influence in elections.  In Washington DC, events will include a Rally at the US Capitol at 11 AM on Friday, followed by a “For the People” Summit Jan. 21-22, focused the influence of money in politics and protecting self-governance for the voters.

    Rally, featuring colorful costumes, music, spectacle, pageantry, and hilarity, PLUS a 200 foot replica of the Preamble to the Constitution and its new challenger, a revision that begins “We the Corporations”

Volunteers in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York, Silver Spring, and Washington DC have created viral web videos about the Corporate-Person American movement, documenting an alternative response to the “Citizens United” ruling.  More are in production.

Harvard Law Professor Lawrence Lessig, who will give the For the People Summit keynote address on Friday, will also speak Thursday at the Capitol Visitors Center (Room 268) at 1 PM event hosted by Public Campaign.  Also on Thursday, volunteers will participate in

  • Lobby Day on Capitol Hill (Jan. 20) starting at 10 AM in the Dirksen Senate Office Building’s basement cafeteria.
