Pat Tillman traded in the gridiron for the battlefield when he left a promising career in the NFL to enlist in the Army Rangers in 2002. He went from an American pastime to American hero by his display of bravery. His tale came to a sad end. The full story is documented in 'The Tillman Story,' which premiered at the Museum of Modern Art in New York on Monday.

On his second tour of duty, Tillman was killed in Afghanistan. It was first reported that he was killed in battle, but later uncovered that he really died as a result of friendly fire. Director Amir Bar-Lev said, "Pat's an American hero and the great thing about him is he's a hero in all the ways except the ways they said he was. This was a pleasure for us because the more we stripped away the cartoon version of Pat, the more heroic he got; the more we admired him."

The film is narrated by Oscar nominated actor Josh Brolin. "I saw the documentary and I was extremely moved. I was happy to see it by myself. I saw it on my little computer and within a half an hour, I was [crying]," he explained of what lured him to lend his voice to the project.
