Nuclear power plants undergo seasonal scheduled outages›
U.S. nuclear reactor operators consider many factors when scheduling plant outages. Recent data show that most units are taken off line every 18 to 24 months for refueling and to perform other maintenance. These outages typically occur in the spring and fall when electricity demand and prices are low. Even with these regular outages, nuclear plants are generally available 90% of the time. When available, they typically operate at or close to full capacity on a continual basis. More ›
