The OPTIM™ Advantage
OPTIM™ Glycerine sets the industry benchmark for purity and consistency. Its extremely high level of purity (>99.7%) is possible due to Dow’s carefully monitored reaction and purification steps, and the use of consistent and uniform raw materials that are produced synthetically by Dow. This results in a superior product of constant high quality, manufactured according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).
Dow is the largest producer of synthetic glycerine in the world, manufacturing and tightly controlling the high quality levels not only of OPTIM™, but also of the major raw materials used. Therefore, OPTIM™ Glycerine has a high degree of quality and reproducibility, which is consistent with each and every manufactured lot.
In contrast, tallow- and vegetable-based glycerines are usually produced as a by-product of oleochemical processes such as biodiesel, soap, fatty acid and fatty alcohol production. The raw materials used in the manufacture of these natural products can include animal fats such as beef tallow, and vegetable oils such as coconut, palm kernel, cottonseed, and soybean, which can result in inferior product stability and important impurities.
Instead, OPTIM™ Glycerine has a proven track record for absence of microbiological impurities and for long-term stability. OPTIM™ Glycerine also has superior sensory properties, i.e. virtually no odour and a consistently sweet taste, which makes it a preferred choice for food, personal care and pharmaceutical applications.
Dow manufactures OPTIM™ Glycerine in its plant in Stade, Germany, according to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) required by the IPEC-PQG current Good Manufacturing Practices Guide for Pharmaceutical Excipients 2006 and relevant EU directives.
- OPTIM™ Glycerine is classified by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as Generally Recognized As Safe (GRAS) and complies with the compendial specifications in the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC), the United States Pharmacopeia (USP) and the European Pharmacopeia (EP)
- OPTIM™ Glycerine is an approved food additive per rule E422 in the European Union and meets Kosher standards.
- OPTIM™ Glycerine is shipped from the Stade production plant according to Good Trade and Distribution Practices (GTDP).
As an added measure of quality assurance, Dow performs state-of-the-art UV (Ultraviolet) spectroscopy analyses on OPTIM™ Glycerine. The analysis detects the presence of impurities that other tests cannot pick up. Comparative test show the superior consistency and quality of OPTIM™ Glycerine over other glycerine samples.
