Break-ups: Champion (1999-2006)

Bridge Nine Records confirmed many internet rumors today by announcing the impending dissolution of Champion on the label's website today, issuing the following statement attributed to Bridge 9 owner Chris Wrenn:

For the past 4 years, working with Champion and releasing their records has been an amazing partnership. Two EP's and an LP of fun, fast and exciting HardCore by a group of some of the most sincere individuals you'll come across in this 'scene'. They put their lives on hold and worked harder than literally any band we've ever worked with, so they could tour from one end of this earth to the other, playing live to more kids in more countries than anyone. I'm sorry to see them go, but the legacy that they'll leave on a new generation of HardCore kids will continue on.

Champion's final show will occur in their hometown of Seattle on May 27th, at a location to be disclosed later, most likely at Bridge Nine's website, since Champion's own website has been taken down.

Champion released their sole full-length, Promises Kept, back to back with the CD compilation of their two previous vinyl 7" EP's, Time Slips Away, last year on Bridge 9.

I have never heard of these dudes before till the last few weeks but I wish I had. I'm sure they had some really fun shows. Straight up punk hardcore, none of that bro-mosh. A good show would be them with Stretch Armstrong, With Honor, Ensign, Come Back Kid, and Where Fear And Weapons Meet.

Not to dampen the mood even moreso, but there's another big name hardcore band that might be disbanding real soon. Don't bother asking me who, because I don't know for sure and don't want to start something up if I'm wrong, but just be aware that another one of your favorite bands might not be around much longer.

Definately didn't see this coming. People have been saying for a while that they signed to Equal Vision and were going to put out new stuff, so it was kinda a shocker. Plus, they have a split coming out with Betrayed.

that sucks. one time when I was a bagger in high school I was taking this ladie's groceries out to her car. One of her items was a 10 lb glass jar of dill pickles. As I am getting ready to put the pickles into the car the doubled bag breaks and the jar falls to the street and throws pickle juice-coated shards of glass everywhere.

So this is fo' reals and I'll probably post this somewhere else too because it's so important: I was eating a can of chicken noddle soup the other day (well the soup not the can) and I get to the bottom of the bowl and there's a little piece of corn. One single fucking little corn kernnel. I don't remember seeing any corn in the soup before. I check the label, it doesn't mention corn. Where the fuck did this nomadic corn come from? And how did he get so fucking far from his home? Why did he leave? What was so great about chicken noddle as oppsed to fiesta rice, where he belongs? It fucking baffels me. -Dante

i wouldn't call myself a huge fan, but i always respected the fact that they are one of the few straightedge bands who are accepting of non-straight edge people.

are they really? i read an interview with them and it made it seem like they were all about spreading the gospel and converting as many people as they could. that to me is bullshit. straight edge should be a personal thing. having some straight edge kid push his values on you is as annoying as some drunk kid throwing beer in your face (if youre not interested in beer).

wow, thats strange. i read an interview (I think it was in AMP, but don't hold me to it) and they were very accepting. they think that people should "x-up" (yeah they actually said that), but i got the impression that they dont just hate someone because they aren't straight-edge. i agree they do kind of throw straight edge on people, but i don't think they hate them persay.

haha, i think we are talking about the same interview. i guess my memory of it got distorted into my stereotype of all straight edge bands. but yea, i didn't think they hated non straight edge kids, just that they were kind of pushy about it, which kinda annoys me. i feel like a lot of kids who "x-up" do it as a fashion statement, and haven't really put any thought into why they want to be straight edge. of course that doesn't apply to everyone, probably not even a majority, but definetly a strong minority. hardcore in general is full of contradictions. most notably how they preach about tolerance, but if you aren't a vegan-straight edge kid then you certainly wont be tolerated. or how tough guy hardcore is all about brotherhood, but if you don't work out then you are a fag. i could go on forever. the point is, i like hardcore a lot but i want nothing to do with the sc

TERRIBLE NEWS! I saw Champion with Betrayed, Miles Away and Internal Affairs twice in Bris in Dec. Check out my pictures in here: http://groups.myspace.com/townsvillehardcore Personally , i thought Betrayed was the best of the bands. Aram is a champ. Has anyone got any idea why Champion broke up anyway? They were talking about coming out to Australia every year because apparently we have "the best hardcore scene in the world".
